Family Time Contact Worker
Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join our “Family Time Team” within Sheffield Children’s Social Care Services.
Contact / family time provides opportunities for looked after children and young people to have physical and emotional contact with their family, friends and network. Children and young people who are looked after should be encouraged and supported to maintain contact with their parents, anyone with parental responsibility, brothers and sisters and other significant family and network members - where it is safe to do so and as set out in their care plan. The local authority has a duty under the Children Act 1989 to promote contact and Courts are required to consider the issues of contact before they make an order, such as a Care Order.
We are looking for a number of family time contact workers who are flexible, committed and who will be responsible for facilitating, observing and supporting vulnerable children, young people and families during contact and therefore you will have either work or voluntary experience in a multi-agency setting with professionals and vulnerable children and families and/or their carers. You will have an understanding of child development, safeguarding and child protection and be able to communicate effectively and build up relationships with children aged from birth to 18 years, their families, foster carers and other professionals in social services. You will be IT competent and be able to write up reports on our social care systems and be able to contribute to their care plans. Training will be provided. You will need to work two weekends out of four.
We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.
Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
