We are seeking to appoint a talented, motivated, and experienced Communications and Engagement Officer to support all aspects of communications and engagement for Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission and Leeds Climate Commission. You will be part of a three-person comms team led by the Policy and Communications Manager within the Commissions’ Staff Team.

The Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission (YHCC) is an independent advisory body set up to bring individuals from the public, private and third sectors together to support and guide ambitious, integrated climate action across all sectors and the region. Its four aims are to foster climate resilience and adaptation to climate risks and impacts; to support rapid progress towards net zero carbon emissions, to protect and restore nature and biodiversity, and to encourage a just and inclusive transition.

The Leeds Climate Commission (LCC), established in 2017, was the very first local climate commission, providing a blueprint for the growing number of other climate commissions that have developed since, largely through the Place-Based Climate Action Network. It is currently undergoing a process to determine a new strategic route map with a mission to provide an independent and safe space where difficult questions can be asked and shared solutions found to guide collaborative climate action across all sectors and the city.

The Communications and Engagement Officer’s work will include helping to commission, develop and communicate a range of outputs (publications, papers, policy briefs, a new website) from Phase 1 of YHCC, as well as ongoing public engagement via social media campaigns and in person and some event organising. You will also be involved in planning, supporting and communicating outputs from Phase 2 of YHCC’s work programme, which will have a particular focus on public affairs, community engagement, developing a regional evidence base, and regional and national policy. Your work will cut across all these areas, but public affairs, and contributing to narratives to communicate policy recommendations, will be a key area of activity to support all four aims of the YHCC.

For the Leeds Climate Commission (LCC), duties will include generating new web content and supporting communications and engagement activities internally and externally, as well as liaising with other comms professionals in joined up campaigns.
