The Cognitive Behavioural Therapist will provide a specialist therapy service for the Department of Liaison Psychiatry. The Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist will work as an autonomous clinician providing Specialist Cognitive Behavioural assessments, care co-ordination and treatment to patients experiencing concurrent physical and psychological problems within an outpatient setting. The post holder will also provide supervision and consultation and advice to staff within the Leeds Liaison Psychiatry service. There will also be scope to assist in the delivery of specialist training to other professional groups and to be part of service development.

The therapist will carry out specialised comprehensive assessments, making complex judgements requiring analysis, interpretation and integrating clinical data from a range of sources, including psychometric tests, direct observation, and interviews with service users, carers and other professionals involved with the service users’ care.

The therapist will utilise specialist assessment skills to determine a potential service users’ suitability for CBT and make informed recommendations for other treatment modalities where indicated.

The therapist will assess the level of risk to service users and others using appropriate standardised tools and develop appropriate risk management plans as required.

The therapist will manage a highly specialised caseload consisting of severe and complex psychological disorders and develop individual case formulations, using evidence based theoretical and therapeutic CBT models to plan and deliver clinical interventions for individual patients and collaboratively engage them in the process of therapy.

The therapist will evaluate and make autonomous decisions about treatment options considering highly complex factors concerning historical and development processes that have shaped the individual. Adapting treatment interventions in accordance with changing circumstances and patient need.

The therapist will be accountable for own actions and decisions without direct or day to day supervision or support

The therapist will provide specialised advice and consultation for the diagnosis, treatment and overall care of patients referred for CBT with complex needs and advise colleagues on appropriate referrals for CBT.

The therapist will provide specialist CBT supervision to Liaison Psychiatry colleagues as agreed with the line manager.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients.

To assist in the planning of delivery of specialist training to other professional groups as required.

To plan and develop the CBT service in collaboration with senior colleagues taking account of national and local drivers and all relevant policies

To work independently managing competing priorities as required.
