The Education, Learning and Development department at Dorset County Hospital has a clinical practice educator post offering excellent career development for the right person who has a passion for developing others.

The post holders will work clinically within our orthopaedic wards alongside new and existing nursing staff, healthcare support workers, students and apprentices.

The post part time for 22.5 hours.

We are looking for highly motivated, professional and well organised individual who has the required skills and knowledge. The post holder will require strong effective communication and interpersonal skills and a drive for innovation and improvement. They will provide support within the wider practice education team delivering face to face training for support workers and newly qualified professionals within the education centre.

Developing and maintaining high quality education, learning and development is one of our key priorities and is part of our people plan. The practice education team play a key role in ensuring that these standards are met.
- To support the Education, Learning and Development function within Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
- Plan, design and deliver evidence based training utilising a blended approach of classroom and practice based strategies.
- Evaluate the impact of training for the service.
- Work collaboratively with the Matrons & Senior Sisters to ensure the delivery of effective, high quality, safe patient centred care.
- Assist and support the continuing education, training and professional development of staff, promoting the acquisition of new skills and knowledge.
- Develop and deliver specific service focussed education programmes as identified by the Matrons.
- Assist in enhancing the capacity, capability and quality of the learning environment for all health care learners, in partnership with key stakeholders.

- To establish and maintain effective working relations with all members of the multidisciplinary team and promote a multidisciplinary approach to education, learning and development to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care.
- Assist in clinical audit data collection, composing of reports and action plans and the dissemination of learning to improve patient care.
- To develop teaching and education programmes for all grades of nursing staff.
- To participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
- To act as a Supervisor and Assessor for Nursing students and a Preceptor for newly qualified Nurses ensuring positive role modeling is evident and providing support to other Nursing staff to undertake these roles
- To contribute to staff development through the Trust appraisal / personal development plan
- To assist the Sister/Charge nurse with staff performance when a learning need/competence concern has been identified as part of an action plan with the support of the Trust Lead Practice Educators
- Develop and maintain orientation packages for new staff and be responsible for their orientation to the unit and
- Ensure all new staff attend Trust Induction and Local Induction is completed in line with Trust policy.
- Support staff in the completion of their Mandatory training
- Support the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in providing progression information for new starters as part of the probationary period process.
- Facilitate the induction of new staff in working towards their professional objectives and competencies (i.e. Preceptorship Programme, Overseas transition programme)
- Develop and maintain accurate training records and produce reports as required
- Promote, encourage and foster a culture which supports learning from adverse or untoward events and provide relevant training and support if necessary
- Support the reduction of clinical risk and promote patient safety through policy & guideline implementation, development of educational programmes, assessment of clinical skills and maintaining of clinical competencies.
- To coordinate/provide training and educational programmes for a variety of clinical specialties to develop a highly skilled and knowledgeable nursing team.
