An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, innovative and dynamic individual to join our Senior Nursing Leadership Team on Critical care as Clinical Practice Educator. The educational requirement within DCH’s Critical Care has grown and will continue to grow with the New Hospital Project and increased recruitment of Internationally Educated Nurses, Trainee Nurse Associates and other learners, requiring a clear vision for the education of the team and consistent delivery of teaching. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing leadership for the educational programme on our Critical Care, working with and having direct line management responsibility for a team of band 6s. They will also have governance and managerial responsibilities linking in with those of the existing band 7 ward leaders; ensuring there is strong, consistent, visible leadership presence on the Critical Care 7 days per week.

- Line manage and oversea practice and development of the CRCU CPE Team
- To work predominantly in a supernumerary role as CPE and Critical Care ward leader, providing clinical supervision and education for the clinical team
- In conjunction with the unit clinical staff, be responsible for the assessment, supervision, and development of the nursing
- Support and assist development of the Nursing team, inclusive of students and HCA’s, acting as a clinical role model, working collaboratively to develop and deliver an ongoing programme of training and education for CRCU.
- Use specialist knowledge and skills to provide “hands on” supervision of staff in clinical practice to promote the acquisition of new skills and
- Oversea the ongoing upkeep of training records in relation to competence of all nursing staff.
- Contribute to the development and reviews of department policies, guidelines, and scope of nursing
- The post holder should retain clinical relevance and at times be rostered as part of the clinical team. At times of significant staffing pressures, the post holder may be required to prioritise patient care.
- Support the care group in achieving key quality indicators, including appraisals, mandatory training, and performance.
- Support the care group in providing evidence-based practice and development of new services/pathways, to include audit and change
- Support and guide newly qualified staff though a preceptorship period
