Lincoln, United Kingdom Bishop Grosseteste University Full time

Salary: In the region of £28,000 p.a with a Professional Development budget of £6,000 (the role also offers the possibility, if desired, to progress towards further work in the church and/or further academic qualification).

Liverpool Cathedral’s strategic aims are to:

- Build a strong faith-based community to serve the social needs of the Liverpool City Region
- Secure sustainable funding to support that mission
- Expand activities to serve the changing needs of Liverpool today

Liverpool Cathedral is currently reassessing and reconceptualising its business model in order to build back after the effects of the pandemic, maximise the effectiveness of its core mission and strengthen its partnerships and bids for funding. In doing so it needs to find new ways of evidencing and understanding the impact of its range of programmes within the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

The post holder, supported by the academic team, will be responsible for embedding within the Cathedral the socio-economic research skill sets for evidencing the Cathedral’s impact on local and wider communities leading on areas such as:

- Critiquing and developing existing programmes.
- Informing the development of new approaches to community engagement.
- Facilitating ambitious partnerships and funding bids.

This role will enable the Cathedral to evaluate:

- How the Cathedral benefits its diverse audiences.
- How different activities have different impact on people.
- How impact varies according to individual differences, e.g., ethnicity, sociological background, psychological motivation, and religious affiliation.
- How cathedrals, and other faith settings, may impact people differently, compared with other comparable activities (museums, heritage buildings, community spaces).

About Liverpool Cathedral:
Liverpool Cathedral is a place of spiritual and cultural significance for the city and region of Liverpool. From its foundation in the early part of the 20th century it has existed as a community and building built by the people, for the people, to the glory of God.

Liverpool Cathedral is more than an iconic Grade 1* listed building. It is a vibrant, active place that the people of the city, regions, and world encounter in many ways, with over half a million visitors each year. Alongside those who come for one of our daily worship services, people may encounter us for a gala dinner, a contemporary installation, a guided tour, or a school trip. But in each way, we hope they encounter a warm welcome and sense of God.

We believe everyone will encounter:

- Inspiring Christian worship
- A breath-taking experience
- A community committed to justice and mercy
- A safe, generous place in joy and sorrow
- A dynamic community of staff and volunteers
- A God who knows and loves you.

Working for Liverpool Cathedral will bring you into a community that seeks to make those encounters happen. You will be someone who can subscribe to, and live out, our values of excellence, dynamic, integrity and inclusive. We have a strong working partnership with the Diocese of Liverpool, bringing extra support to our activities.

This role is full time (37.5 hours per week equivalent). We welcome applicants seeking flexible working.

Whilst employed by Bishop Grosseteste University, the post holder will be principally based at Liverpool Cathedral with travel and visits to external organisations and university partners. The Cathedral operates a wide range of activities, seven days a week; this role is not a solely 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday post. You agree to work flexibly over a 7-day week when required, which may include weekends and bank holidays, to be agreed with supervisors.

Liverpool Cathedral is committed to treating our whole community with dignity and respect. We desire to represent diverse identities within our community whether this be by race, culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or social background of each person to ensure they fulfil their potential within a proactive, loving and caring environment.

The Associate will be line managed by Professor Sally Harper - Professor in Cathedral and Sacred Music Studies and Linette Wallace - Business Development Officer. They will also be supported by the Revd Canon Professor Leslie J. Francis - Professor of Religions, Psychology and Education.

On a day-to-day basis the Associate will work with the Revd Canon Dr Neal Barnes - Residentiary Canon for Mission and Faith Development and Sub-Dean, Liverpool Cathedral.
