Job Purpose:

- To provide a tailored approach and support to supporting individual pupils who may at risk of disengaging from education due to a range of factors including behavioural, social, emotional and mental health challenges
- To deliver evidence-based interventions to support pupils overcome behavioural, social, emotional and mental health challenges
- To support staff to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues relating to mental health to improve mental well-being for pupils
- To act as Senior Lead for Mental Health in the academy
- To liaise with external agencies to support the mental health and social and emotional well-being of all pupils in the academy

Main Accountabilities:

- To implement and manage an internal referral process for students who are struggling with their social, emotional and mental health wellbeing in the academy
- Assess and deliver outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions to students experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties
- Provide interventions for pupils and their families to support student well-being.
- Help students presenting with more severe problems to access more specialist services, such as CADS, social care or GPs.
- Work closely with the safeguarding, pastoral and SEND teams to support students who are internally identified as needing support to help with their social, emotional and mental health well-being.
- Undertake accurate assessment of risk to self and others, collaboratively safety plan and document in a professional and clear manner
- Provide appropriate mental health support to pupils
- Provide support and advice to academy staff to improve pupil wellbeing and mental health
- Organise and deliver themed workshops / sessions for pupils/staff/parents on mental wellbeing
- Keep clear and accurate records of all support delivered
- Complete all requirements relating to data collection
- Attend multi-agency meetings as required
- Keeping abreast of developments in theory and research and undertaking continuing professional development
- Follow and comply with safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Participate in training and development activities as appropriate
- Attend team, department and TAC meetings as required
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained where required and compliance with Data Protection regulations and policy.

Knowledge and Experience:

- Flexible, adaptable and approachable
- Knowledge and experience of the education sector
- Knowledge and experience of providing care and support to young people with social, emotional and mental health needs
- Mature approach to emotionally demanding work
- Ability to deal with a wide range of pupil behaviours
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work with adults, parents and young people
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate mental health support training
- Effective communicator with students as well as a range of external and internal agencies
- Self
- motivated and able to demonstrate initiative
- Commitment to on-going professional development
- Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the overall success of the team
- Good standard of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and ideally Bromcom MIS or similar
