The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

We are a team of around 400 people and combine our Newcastle upon Tyne and London operations with a local presence around the English coastline in Brixham, Beverley, Harwich, Hastings, Lowestoft, North Shields, Hayle, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Preston, Scarborough, Shoreham, Whitehaven.

We also have colleagues based in Defra offices, including Bristol, Cambridge and York where we share office space.

Job description

The Data, Technology and Innovation (DTI) Team supports the MMO Senior Responsible Owner (Director of D&A) in discharging their responsibilities for information risk. The team leads the MMO’s information security, data protection, technical assurance, and information management functions.

In this role, you will:

- Provide specialist data protection knowledge within the MMO.
- Support MMO’s Data Protection Manager, MMO colleagues, stakeholders, SRO, and Information Asset Owners (Directors) in identifying, documenting, and managing/mitigating information risks.
- Cover for the Data Protection Manager when needed, engaging with Senior Stakeholders.
- Use own expertise to develop guidance documents on data protection, including DP policies, processes, training, and communications.
- Develop MMO’s data protection reporting and escalation mechanisms for data protection related issues, including data protection breaches.
- Provide additional support to records management and information security assurance across MMO.
- actively engage in continuous improvement and documentation of the team's services and evolving ways of working.
