We maintain an internal surge capability of staff who may be called at short notice to support an activation of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE). Training and support will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to develop crisis management skills.

**Job description**:
The role sits within the Go-Science Science Systems and Capability directorate, which aims to embed science and engineering in decision-making across government and raise the overall science and engineering capability of government. Within this directorate sits the Government Science and Engineering (GSE) Profession, which supports and connects ~10,000 scientists and engineers working across the civil and public service.

You will be part of the GSE Profession and People Capability team. It is an exciting time to join us, with a big focus on increasing science capability across government - increasing the movement of scientists and engineers in and out of government is a key part of Government Reform, which you would help deliver.

Specifically, you would increase high demand science and engineering skills across government through supporting the exploration, design and delivery secondments and placements, spanning government, academia and industry. This will directly support the Government Chief Scientific Adviser (GCSA) in their role as Head of the GSE profession. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to improve how science and engineering is accessed and supported across government. You will build broad networks with external organisations and develop a good awareness of systems across government and industry.

**Key Responsibilities**

You will be working to ensure high-level skills are retained in government, by improving how scientists and engineers can gain experience from other sectors and across government. This will be delivered through the following responsibilities:

- Supporting the delivery and growth of the Government and Science Profession’s STEM knowledge exchange scheme - STEM Futures.
- With support, lead on the development of a new technical community of interest to deliver learning and development opportunities for scientist and engineers.
- Internal and external stakeholder engagement through acting as initial point of contact for enquiries.
- Designing and delivering events targeted at cross-sector organisations.
- Present to colleagues and external stakeholders to inform and engage around initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and effective administrative records and systems for the knowledge exchange workstream. - Work closely with the SEO lead, develop, shape and deliver future projects designed to increase the technical capability of scientists and engineers across government.
