Childrens Counsellor

Our new children’s home in Stoke on Trent will be responsible for providing supportive placements for young people who are unable to live at home currently. As a key member of our residential team, the counsellor will support both staff and children living in our homes, lead the development of a trauma-informed, therapeutic approach to care and provide specialised assessments.
We are currently looking for an experienced counsellor to join our team. In order to be considered for this post you will have to demonstrate that you already have:
SKILLS:
- A caring, non-judgmental approach
- Excellent observation and listening skills
- Patience, tolerance, empathy and understanding
- Good sense of humour
- An understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding issues when working with young people in care.
- Ability to work autonomously and the ability to adhere to a professional, ethical framework.
- Interest in trauma/attachment/systemic approaches and a desire to promote stable, safe and secure placements for young people in care.
- Evidence of multi agencies/professional working.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Providing one to one counselling for young people in residential care including the delivery of a range of therapeutic interventions.
- Knowledge and understanding of the diverse range of needs and challenges for young people living in residential care.
- Understanding of attachment and the impact of trauma.
- Understanding the challenges faced by carers supporting young people in care.
- Relevant childcare and welfare legislation
- Safeguarding and child protection procedure
EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant experience in working with children and young people in a counselling role.
- Relevant experience of delivering therapeutic groupwork to young people.
- Knowledge of the care system
QUALIFICATIONS:
Relevant counselling qualification at Diploma level or above such as Diploma in Counselling or Psychotherapy.
An additional qualification in counselling young people would be advantageous.
Evidence of continuous professional development and be registered with a professional body such as BACP, UKCP or other suitable profession.
Must attend regular clinical supervisionHave professional indemnity insurance
**Job Type**: Part-time
**Salary**: £180.00 per day
