This post focuses on malignant haematology, taking a core role in the delivery of inpatient and outpatient care for children with malignant haematological disorders. They would share responsibility with colleagues for the Bristol leukaemia clinic as well as being responsible for the care of patients from two of our Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCUs) across the South West. This post will also take part in the benign haematology attending rota including consultative haematology for Bristol and the South West, and including specific in reach ward rounds for paediatric intensive care where there is a large paediatric cardio-thoracic workload.

The post holder will be responsible, together with colleagues, for the care of Malignant Haematology patients from the South West. They will work onsite at BRHC unless attending clinics in Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units. With their consultant colleagues they will contribute to the ward attending rota where they will be responsible for the care of inpatient and day case malignant haematology patients. They will share responsibility with colleagues for the weekly leukaemia clinic in Bristol and perform outreach leukaemia clinics on an approximately 3-monthly basis to regional POSCUs.

The post holder will be a member of the malignant haematology team taking care of malignant haematology patients. The post is based at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) but the post holder will liaise closely with colleagues in our shared care centres across the South West and may be required to perform outreach clinics to those centres. The post holder will be responsible for the leadership of leukaemia care for children living and attending two of our Paediatric Oncology Shared care units (POSCUs). The geographical location of those POSCUs can be negotiated with the existing team but the centres include Gloucestershire Hospitals, Royal United Hospital, Bath, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Plymouth University Hospitals NHS Trust, Royal Devon and Exeter, and Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

This post holder will also work within the benign haematology team where they are encouraged to develop a specialist interest complimentary to existing roles as well as providing consultative haematology within BRHC and to colleagues in the South West. There is flexibility to adapt other consultants job roles to adapt to this specialist interest ensuring that within the team all areas of benign haematology are represented.
