A vacancy for a Maintenance Assistant - Shifts, has arisen within the Estates Maintenance Department. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual who has a willingness to adapt and to learn.

Reporting to the Work Load Co-ordinator, you will undertake supervised / unsupervised routine maintenance duties throughout the hospital and other unit premises.

To succeed in the role you will have a good knowledge and skill level in Building

Maintenance, along with a good awareness of Health and Safety legislation and guidance.

The Estates Maintenance Department provides a varied range of building and engineering services to Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust in order to maintain the buildings and associated services in line with current legislation and standards. The department is committed to the ongoing training of their staff to a high standard in order to comply with legislation and to ensure that the patient environment is maintained so as to be safe, but in a cost effective and efficient manner.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its ‘Be Safe Be EquiPPEd’ campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE. The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

1.Work as part of a multi-disciplinary professional team providing
planned/reactive maintenance for the Trust’s buildings within statutory
obligations, best practice, manufacturer / supplier instructions, Trust policy
and related documentation.
2. Provide an efficient, effective and proactive maintenance service working with other members of the Estates Team to develop an integrated and seamless service within estates maintenance.
3. Undertake the day-to-day planned maintenance routine duties and repairs, checks and testing of the complete spectrum of services found in a clinical building environment.
4. Ensure prompt response to service users’ needs and to take a hands-on
approach to its delivery including customer feedback questionnaires and
attending ward/departmental audits as and when required.
5. Liaise with the Estates and Facilities ‘Helpdesk’ / interact with work allocation procedures for daily work plan/issues including assisting with communications with the ward/departments on progress of jobs.

6. Provide a high standard of professional workmanship and conduct in carrying out all duties.
7. Interpret and work from instructions drawings and specifications without
supervision, analysing information available and make judgement on the best possible solution from the options available.
8. Carry out semi-skilled plumbing / mechanical system duties to include but not exclusively; repairing of radiator leaks, cleaning of vents, unblocking of gutters and drains, as well as sinks and toilets, renewing of tap washers.
9. Carry out semi-skilled electrical duties to include but not exclusively;
replacement of light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and the cleaning and/or
replacement of light fittings/diffusers. Re-setting of clocks. Assist in the testing of Fire Alarms.
10. Taking meter readings (electrical, gas and water supplies)
11. Undertake unpacking, tidying, clearing, delivering, cleaning and escorting contractor duties as required.
12. Driving duties.
13. Under take general checks, surveys and audits as specified.
14. Demonstrate the operation of equipment.
15. Assist as necessary in arrangements relating to PAT testing and the
associated records.
16. Review departmental stock (maintenance stores) relating to tasks being
undertaken and report deficiencies with stock levels. Assist in the day-today operation
