The responsibilities for the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero for 2023 are as follows:

- Delivering security of energy supply
- Ensuring properly functioning energy markets
- Encouraging greater energy efficiency
- Seizing the opportunities of net zero to lead the world in new green industries

For 2023, our priorities are:

- Ensure security of energy supply this winter, next winter and in the longer-term - bringing down energy bills and reducing inflation.
- Ensure the UK is on track to meet its legally binding Net Zero commitments and support economic growth by significantly speeding up delivery of network infrastructure and domestic energy production.
- Improve the energy efficiency of UK homes, businesses and public sector buildings to meet the 15% demand reduction ambition.
- Deliver current schemes to support energy consumers with their bills and develop options for long-term reform to improve how the electricity market works for families and businesses.
- Seize the economic benefits of Net Zero, including the jobs and growth created through investment in new green industries.
- Pass the Energy Bill to support the emerging CCUS and hydrogen sectors; to update the governance of the energy system; and to reduce the time taken to consent offshore wind.

**Job description**:
**The role and our team**

This is an exciting opportunity to join us at the newly established Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). As Capability and Professions Advisor, you’ll join a small and dynamic team at a pivotal time as we re-establish our portfolio and brand offer.

You’ll play a key role in “Powering up the Professions”, our campaign to re-invigorate the Civil Service Professions across the department and champion professional development at every level. You’ll also support our ‘Capability Strategy’ and take a pro-active approach to support its underpinning action plans. A key part of the team’s remit is to build line management capability and you’ll work in partnership with others to deliver a suite of line management learning and development initiatives.

We work closely with colleagues in the Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) team and with counterparts in the new Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). This is a key part of our ways of working as we transition into our new working models.

**Key responsibilities**

**General**
- Take an active operational role in the delivery and coordination of a range of capability, professions, and line management related activities across the department.
- Be visible and accessible to customers and stakeholders - confidently leading meetings, contributing ideas and recommendations and showcasing the work of the team.
- Be the team’s point of contact for general queries and correspondences. You’ll share your in-depth understanding of the departments’ capability and professions’ offer and provide advice and guidance to a wide range of stakeholder groups as required.
- Take ownership of the team’s data - assessing and validating the data sources available, drawing insights and narratives and working with others to turn these into potential actions.
- Take the lead in making improvements to the information/ data we have available by working with the HR MI team to refresh and expand the data and insights where possible.
