**About the job?**

This is a pivotal role in supporting our Alliance relationship with Network Rail Western Route. As a joint role, the postholder shall act objectively to the benefit of both organisations. The role should foster closer collaborative working through, promoting the Alliance, encouraging the right behaviours throughout both organisations, facilitating the agreed Alliance activities and by working through relevant supporting structures, such as the Route Supervisory Board.

**Your main responsibilities will be**:

- The postholder shall remain neutral to both Network Rail Western Route and GWR, encouraging transparency while maintaining independence and protecting the commercial position of both organisations.
- The postholder shall help manage the periodic Directors' Alliance Board meeting by providing support to the chair(s) and arranging the agenda and inputs and outputs to the meeting. This includes working with the chairs to review the workings of the meeting to maximise its effectiveness in delivering the Alliance objectives.
- The postholder supports the multi-lateral Western Route Supervisory Board through assisting its independent chair.
- The postholder shall promote the Alliance and encourage the Alliance behaviours throughout both organisations to both management and frontline staff, helping to facilitate closer working for customer benefit.
- The postholder shall support the development and delivery of the agreed Alliance activities, providing support to the nominated leads for both organisations and helping to increase alignment of objectives.
- The postholder shall seek to identify good practice, both within the two organisations and from the wider industry, that can be shared across the Alliance.
- Act as GWR's Open Data Champion, owning GWR's Data Sharing Strategy and championing data sharing across GWR, Network Rail, GBRTT and other industry partners.
- You will support the organisation's vision and purpose by living GWR's values at all times and you are responsible for constantly developing your leadership and management competence in line with published frameworks. You will comply with all HR policies relevant to your role.
- You will lead, motivate, develop and engage colleagues through effective people management and communication practices. You will promote a culture of learning, innovation and accountability and will communicate GWR's vision and purpose to colleagues in an appropriate way to ensure everyone is working towards a common end point and understands how they contribute to the success of GWR.
- Security is about our passengers feeling safe when they travel, our colleagues feeling secure while at work and our business assets being protected. You will comply with all security procedures and local instructions and if you see something suspicious you must report it.
- You will liaise with the Franchise Compliance Manager to identify specific Franchise Compliance issues relating to locations, facilities and processes under your control and ensure their delivery.
- You will comply with First Group's Environment Policy and GWR's Energy Policy.

**You'll need to be**:

- An excellent communicator, able to distil and disseminate complex information effectively to all levels
- Skilled at developing positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of working within a complex and heavily regulated business or industry

**As a minimum, you will need to have**:

- An excellent understanding of the rail industry, and how the system works with collaboration between multiple organisations
- The ability to maintain a consistently high standard in their work
- A level of comfort to positively challenging and influence colleagues and stakeholders at all levels to ensure both parties understand
- The ability to work standalone and as part of a virtual team.
- Experience of resolving complex business problems through the use of engagement, relationship management and collaboration
