**JOB PURPOSE**

The Cultural Venue Operations Apprentice role provides training in a broad range of **visitor experience **and **operational skills**. Our apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity for a recent school leaver to learn, train and experience real work in a professional cultural environment where we take great pride in looking after our visitors, providing beautiful places for people to visit, and working to a high standard.

The Cultural Venue Operations Apprentice will help ensure we maximise our visitors’ enjoyment of National Trust for Scotland managed sites by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income, helping to look after the collection and ensuring that the site and its assets are safe and secure.

Specifically, to ensure the smooth and safe operations in Admissions, Events, Education activities and the Collection making the property the best possible place to visit and work.

The Apprentice will also study for a Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ in Cultural Venue Operations at SCQF Level 6)

- **35 hours per week**_

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**

**To provide a consistently high standard of visitor care at all times**:

- Welcoming visitors to the site, processing their admission in a friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable manner and providing information about the site which maximises their experience.
- Welcoming visitors with additional needs and providing a high level of service in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.
- Welcoming groups in an efficient and warm manner.
- Answering visitors’ queries about the site, and the local area.
- Promoting the National Trust for Scotland including our Membership scheme, events, upselling other properties and being proactive in the selling of Membership and encouraging Gift Aid.

**To maintain excellent standards of site and personal presentation at all times**:

- Ensuring site is ready to open.
- Wearing correct uniform, name badges, or PPE as required
- Always maintain excellent standards of site and personal presentation
- The general ongoing operational cleaning of all areas as necessary, toilet cleaning, emptying waste bins and as appropriate vacuum cleaning, mopping, sweeping, dusting, and polishing when required.
- Reporting all issues of damage and wear and tear, promptly to your Line Manager
- Working in harmony with other departments; food & beverage, retail, housekeeping, gardening, grounds maintenance and site repair employees/contractors.

**Financial Responsibilities**
- To adhere to all financial procedures to include till operation and banking and safeguarding of monies.

**Admission and Guiding duties**
- Provide information and assistance in a friendly manner to maximise visitor experience.
- To proactively develop a knowledge of Burns and the wider site and share this with visitors.
- Conduct guided tours of Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, The Birthplace Cottage and wider site to the general public and visiting groups.
- Provide information on other National Trust sites and services available to visitors.
- To assist in achieving site admissions and membership targets and KPI’s.
- To actively upsell products and services to facilitate the visitor’s enjoyment.
- To undertake visitor surveys using a tablet and to actively feedback visitor comments to line managers to develop and improve offer, service, operations.

**Events duties**
- Assisting in developing and ensuring delivery of a varied program of events, to generate additional income and develop new audiences for the property and its satellite sites.
- To assist with the set-up, stewarding and break-down of events in liaison with the functions and events supervisor.
- Help to deliver events on time, within budget, which meet (and hopefully exceed) expectations.
- Looking after equipment and supplies (such as, crafting resources, games and props, cleaning equipment and supplies) to ensure the operational efficacy of all aspects of event delivery.
- Working with the property team to help create interesting and appropriate social media content, ensuring it is appropriate, relevant, and engaging.
- Working across departments, assisting with the design and production of marketing material and marketing activity to promote the events program.
- Use of on-line ticketing systems such as Eventbrite to help create and manage ticket sales for events.

- Work with the learning team to assist in the delivery of learning and engagement programs.
