Project Worker

Were you in care as a child? Are you looking to use your passion and lived experience to make a real difference to the lives of older care experienced people then this is just the role for you

**Position**: Project Worker

**Location**: Manchester and/home working - see paragraph below

**Hours**: Full time, 35 hours per week

**Salary**: £24,496 - £29,439 SCP 12-22 depending on experience

**Benefits**: Contributory Pension scheme, 25 days’ annual leave plus public holidays (pro rata), working for a small flexible charity, you will get to shape the project in your own way.

**Closing Date: 25th May 5pm**

**The Role**

There are 2 full-time equivalent (FTE) roles available. There is the possibility for one of the roles to be split in a job share. Both post-holders will work together on the project. Activities will be shared between the post-holders and the wider staff team, depending on skills and interests. Some of the tasks will require all team members working together at the same time. This will include the post-holders engaging in the supervision, co-ordination and support of care-experienced volunteers.

The organisation has other projects and areas of activity. The roles will be expected to contribute to those other areas of work where appropriate. Also, there will be opportunities for individuals to pursue personal areas of interest related to the care experience and the adult lives of care leavers.

The organisation operates a flexible working policy that supports staff members to divide their main working time between the office and their home. However, the office base is in Manchester and the post holder would be expected to work in the office for a minimum of 3 days per week. On some occasions there will also be a requirement to travel to different parts of England.

Main responsibilities include:

- Deliver a regular program of social and supportive online sessions for older care leavers.
- Develop and produce a user-led newsletter/magazine/ezine.
- Establish online/physical support groups in various cities across England.
- Develop and deliver a program that supports care leavers who have accessed their social care file, so that they can gain a better understanding of their identity and personal history. The program will take the form of a series of group workshops, using creative methods to help care leavers incorporate aspects of their childhood experience into their adult identity.

**About You**

The project will sometimes include engaging and supporting people who have experienced traumatic situations in the past. Whilst regular support will be provided to help you deal with this type of work, you will need to be resilient, empathetic and able to let go of challenging emotions at the end of the day. That being said, the rewards for knowing that you are contributing to making a real difference to the lives of care leavers of all ages are immense.

**About the Organisation**

The association is a service-user-led charity established as a voice for adults who grew up in the care of the state as children (typically in residential and foster care). The vision, established in 2010, is for “A good life in care, a good life after care”.

The mission is:
“to bring together the voices of care leavers of all ages so that we improve the current care system, improve the quality of life of care leavers throughout their life and change for the better society’s perception of people who have been in care.”
