Learning and Community Engagement Trainee post

The post holder will support our Learning and Community Engagement (Lace) team in all aspects of the development and day to day delivery of our schools and community programmes, reporting to the Senior Learning and Community Engagement Officer.

The purpose of this trainee post is to provide you with general experience of working in a heritage learning and engagement team and to give you the employability skills to move on to a role in a similar field. The Lace team is keen to enable the post holder opportunity to use the resources of the post and available networks to develop their professional skills and knowledge. The post holder should be proactive in taking opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge and in asking the Senior Lace Officer for support in pursuing these.

As part of the Learning and Community Engagement team the post holder will be involved in the strategic development of the service and it's contribution to the strategic goals of Heritage and Culture Warwickshire. As a small core team the Lace trainee will have the opportunity to be involved in all parts of Lace.

We safeguard Warwickshire’s archives, history and natural sciences, protect its historic and natural environment and provide high quality arts and cultural opportunities and lifelong learning for everyone in the County and beyond.

Heritage and Culture Warwickshire has several sites based in and around Warwick, Market Hall Museum, St Johns House, Warwickshire County Record Office and a Collections Centre for the museum collections. We are a countywide service and working with partners from within and outside Warwickshire County Council offer outreach services to local communities.

About the Learning and Community Engagement team

The Learning and Community Engagement team consists of the Senior Lace Officer, a Lace Officer, the Volunteer Coordinator, Exhibitions and Engagement Officer, who are the core team, and several teams of staff who deliver our activity programmes. We deliver workshops for schools at HCW sites and in schools, an events and activities programme for families and adult audiences at the Market Hall museum and the County Record Office, we run regular groups that meet at the Market Hall museum such as Arty Tots, support the Development Team with income generation and support the team of volunteers that work with different services in HCW.

The Lace team works closely with other teams in HCW to support exhibition and project development and delivery. Members of the Lace team will write and contribute to the writing of funding grants across HCW and the evaluation reports for projects. They sit on project groups to ensure the delivery of projects, working with colleagues across HCW and external partners.

Our school workshop programme is delivered by a team of Group Leaders, assisted by the Support Assistant team. Details of the offer to schools can be found on the Heritage and Culture Warwickshire website. The Support Assistant team, with the Evening and Overnight Activity Leaders team, deliver our family holiday events in the Market Hall Museum and evening events. T

The Evening and Overnight Activity Leaders also supervise and run group sleepovers at the Market Hall Museum. The Lace Trainee will work closely with these teams, ensuring they have the resources to deliver the programme of events and activity.

The Lace team has a responsibility to income generate part of it’s annual operating budget and runs a range of events that engage audiences with local heritage as well as contributing to this responsibility. The Lace team also works with the Development Team to develop new income generation activities. We are looking for some one who can contribute to the creation of new ideas and will assist in the delivery and evaluation of new events, such as Escape Games for families at St Johns House Museum.
