We are recruiting to an exciting opportunity for a Head of Estates Sustainability.

This is an excellent opportunity to join our team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, at a time when we are strengthening our sustainability function.

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability and Carbon Management, the post-holder is a key member of the senior leadership team in the Estates and Facilities department. The post holder will have Trust-wide responsibility for the function and ensuring the effective, efficient, and Sustainable Environmental services and systems across the Trust.

The Trust is looking for a ‘can do’ person who thrives in an environment of innovation, change management, cost improvement, new ways of working and ideas, motivating staff and has a constant focus on improving the patient experience.

As the Head of Estates Sustainability you will lead, develop and implement the Trust’s approach to sustainable development.

You will provide senior professional management of the Trusts full range of Estates & Facilities environmental services including; energy and water management, waste management, carbon reduction, sustainable and active travel, environmental legal compliance, sustainable design and construction, environmental management systems, communications and staff engagement

OtherJOB SUMMARY

To lead, develop and implement the Estates & Facilities approach to sustainability, energy and carbon management, and provide senior professional advisory and reporting of the Trusts environmental services. Management oversight of energy and water utilities, carbon reduction, sustainability, travel, transport and car parking services, environmental compliance, sustainable design and construction, environmental management systems, with associated communications and staff engagement. Alongside the Head of Sustainability and Carbon Management develop and champion the Trust’s long term ‘Green Plan’, and meet the NHS Net Zero targets.

To proactively embed sustainable development and efficiency across the organisation and engage key stakeholders including PFI and other external partners to deliver the Trust’s vision to become a leading NHS Trust for sustainable development.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications

Communicate with all levels of staff and other site users across the organisation, ensuring that highly complex information is communicated in an easy to understand way to staff who are not specialists;
Communicate to a variety of external organisations, contractors, suppliers etc. on a daily basis or as required to ensure that projects etc. are progressed in accordance with plans;
Exchange and communicate sometimes highly complex or contentious sustainability and transport related information internally and externally with specialists and non-specialists. This will include policy changes, strategic information, new policies, guidelines and regulations. Oral, written, electronic and presentation skills will be required. These are regularly undertaken in an emotive or hostile setting;
