Quality Assurance Operative

**Job Purpose Statement**
To support the Quality Manager in ensuring that all finished products meet specification, food safety requirements and customer requirements and to ensure ‘Right First Time’.
**Scope of the Job**
To ensure that incoming raw materials and packaging are tested correctly against specification, that they meet specification, are suitable for purpose and have all the relevant supporting documentation. Any non-conforming material to be quarantined, a supplier non-conformance report to be raised and distributed and the issue reported to the Quality Manager or 0in their absence the Production Supervisor.
To ensure all critical process control parameters, including both quality and food safety parameters, are being managed and are within specification to ensure ‘Right First Time’. Any non-conforming parameters to be reported to the Production Supervisor and Quality Manager immediately so that production can be stopped, if necessary, to prevent further manufacture of out of specification material. This includes verification of food safety checks carried out by Operations personnel
Responsible for carrying out in process and finished product testing that is not covered by Production Supervisors/Operatives
To carry out plant, process and GMP inspections as directed by the Quality Manager. To perform Internal Auditing as part of the Internal Auditing team and assist the Audit & Training Officer where required.
Assistance with traceability exercises and Audits, presenting where requested. Retrieving documentation and Records as required.
To ensure that all non-conforming and out-of-specification product, whether raw material, packaging, intermediate products or finished products, are reported and controlled using the relevant procedure (product incident procedure, hold procedure, rework procedure and return to stock procedure).
To collate and manage samples sent for external analysis.
To generate and send certificates of analysis where required by the customer.
To ensure that key issues such as pest sightings, non-conforming products, critical food safety failures and other key issues are reported to the Quality Manager in a timely manner.
To help to identify process improvement opportunities, including food safety initiatives, quality improvement initiatives, process efficiencies and waste reduction opportunities.
To cover holiday and sickness of other QA Operatives. To perform any reasonable work request on any STC site as directed.
Ensuring that health and safety processes and procedures are followed and that any breaches of procedure are immediately reported to the appropriate Supervisor and subsequently to the Quality Manager (where appropriate).

Able to demonstrate basic influencing/negotiating skills
Time management skills
Good communication skills, both written and verbal with accuracy and attention to detail.
Able to assimilate information quickly and learn new tasks.
Good PC skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly, Excel and Word.
An understanding of BRCGS certification, Organic certification, Kosher certification and the STC quality and food safety systems.
Able to make decisions, but to refer upwards when the decision requires senior approval
Ability to identify improvement opportunities and report them to the Quality Manager.
Good IT skills and the ability to learn and use new sites, hardware & software.
Good team player.
Good working knowledge of production processes.
Basic auditing skills.
