Communication and relationship skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and contentious information orally, in writing and electronically to inform work with the public, directorates, divisions and stakeholders. Ability to negotiate and motivate teams and staff to deliver pieces of work, and persuade stakeholders and staff of the importance of the work. Ability to work with people at all levels and effectively engage with a broad range of stakeholders, and link with other initiatives.

Ability to communicate sensitive information about performance and change requiring agreement or co-operation from managers, service users and other stakeholders and provide advice as necessary. Ability to liaise, develop and build relationships and effective lines of communication with key partners and stakeholders. Ability to actively promote learning, networking and sharing of best practice. Ability to summarise reports and other key documents Ability to design and deliver routine and complex formal presentations to large groups.

Knowledge, training and experience Knowledge of workforce development in healthcare, including workforce development approaches, education development and commissioning. Knowledge of the requirements of a Pathology service and workforce. Knowledge of healthcare education and training systems. Knowledge and understanding of the opportunities of digital solutions.

Experience of working in a pathology discipline High levels of numeracy and of written and verbal communication. Experience and knowledge in the use of advanced MS Office suite. Proven experience of working autonomously and without supervision, using own initiative, but with access to advice when necessary. Experience of managing staff.

Analytical and judgmental skills Ability to analyse complex facts or situation which require interpretation/comparison of a range of options i.e. making judgements where there are conflicting views and there is a need to make decisions on complex issues. Ability to analyse information made up of various components, eg multiple competing plans to identify the critical path for the overarching programme of work. Ability to work with people at all levels and effectively engage with a broad range of stakeholders.

Ability to make a comparative assessment against known facts/information in order to highlight issues and produce trend related information. Ability to evaluate and monitor identified risks and issues and highlight necessary action to resolve. Ability to compare and assess a range of options, and make recommendations. Ability to assess and prioritise own and teams workload within giventimeframe to meet deadlines.

Ability to monitor progress of defined aspects of specific projects/pieces of work, identifying problems or opportunities.
