We also pay sleepover hours at £10.02 per hour. Agile working will be adopted.

Quarriers have had a presence in Dumfries and Galloway since 1999 when the organisation was commissioned to develop and provide family based short breaks region wide to significantly disabled children and young people. This is the core service around which everything else has developed where we recruit ordinary people within the community to become short break foster carers.

We have been in a privileged position to identify unmet need for families and the development of a “whole family” approach has led to a range of innovative services which work across Dumfries and Galloway such as:
1. Short breaks for children affected by disability in a family home provided by Quarriers foster carers

2. Family support for families who have additional needs. We work alongside our colleagues in social services who refer individuals requiring support for a variety of reasons including parents who need help to parent positively - including those with learning disabilities or who have a learning disabled child

3. Parent Carers support for parent carers of a child with a disability under the age of 18. We actively support parent carers to access training and other benefits within the community as well as signposting parent carers to other additional support and networks.

4. School based Emotional Health and Wellbeing support for children and young people referred through their school for additional support with good mental health and impacts of their emotional health and wellbeing on their learning.

Regionwide we have developed teams of Family Support Workers who work out of office bases in Dumfries and Stranraer. This has been in response to the needs of Children with Disabilities Social Workers who refer children and young people with significant learning disabilities/autism/physical disabilities.

As a Family Support worker, your role will be varied and will include responsibility for:

- Providing support at home and in the community to children, young people and parents who need additional support because the family is affected by disability or for other reasons
- To work with looked after children in a variety of ways which may include supervised or supported contacts
- To care for children and young people in a way which ensures their safety and security within their home and the community

Delivering support to children affected by disability on an individual 1:1 basis, or alongside others, at home or out in the community
- To work to flexible agreed hours in response to the needs of children, young people and families
- To provide support to individuals or groups mainly outside school/college hours, in the evening or at weekends
- To work as part of a team to assess and/or improve parenting skills in the family home (either at least one parent or the child will have a learning disability/ASD)
- Essential access to a car and have business insurance to transport children from remote locations to community activities in the area
- Acting as a mentor to new workers, students and volunteers as required.
- To commit to personal development through e-learning and attending practical training
