A rare and exciting opportunity to join the East Midlands Ambulance Service Communications Team has arisen, allowing you to also make a difference to patients, the public and ambulance and NHS staff.

We are looking for an experienced professional who can deliver effective communications and engagement to an extensive range of people and organisations, to a high standard, and in a timely manner.

EMAS has been awarded a 10-year contract to run the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services across Lincolnshire from Saturday, 1 July 2023. This role is vital to the successful mobilisation and delivery of the new service and will play a pivotal role in the delivery of ongoing communications and engagement work across Derbyshire and Northamptonshire where EMAS also provide the service.

The successful individual will join a highly skilled Communications team who are responsible for the delivery of internal and external communications including:

- weekly staff and volunteer digital magazine, online staff engagement platform, intranet and website,
- social media and media relations,
- business continuity, crisis and issues management,
- public awareness campaigns and award events,
- management of corporate identity, design and print.

The development and effective delivery of Communications Plans and project-based assignments to support EMAS’ NEPTS activities is an essential part of this role.

At times the individual may be required to support other Communications team activity eg to cover annual leave or in response to issues.

This post will sit within the EMAS Communications Team structure, which currently includes an Assistant Director of Communications; a Communications Manager; two Communications Officers; and one Internal Communications Officer.

The team are highly skilled and motivated, responsible for the delivery of internal and external communications. The team are home workers, with a requirement to travel across the region and work at EMAS or other NHS facilities on occasion.

The Communications Team sits within the Directorate of Strategy and Transformation.

**Main responsibilities**:
**The post-holder will**:
1. Be responsible for day to day operations and effective planning relating to EMAS NEPTS Communications and Engagement, using the internal and external channels and methods available to provide a proactive, effective, accurate, robust and accessible service. For example, contribute to the weekly digital staff and volunteer internal magazine (articles, photographs, videos), online staff engagement platform (Workplace by Meta), intranet; social media engagement; maintain and develop the NEPTS web page; proactive and reactive media handling; produce and contribute to EMAS reports and publications (eg patient information leaflets, stakeholder briefing packs, NEPTS presentations, Annual Report, Quality Account, Annual General Meeting).
2. Support the Assistant Director of Communications, Communications Manager, and Head of NEPTS by leading the creation and delivery of Communication plans (including engagement, involvement and promotion/marketing), understanding and presenting complex and/or sensitive information in more accessible formats, and supporting the achievement of EMAS, NEPTS and Communications strategic objectives, project-based assignments and campaigns; this may include formal staff and/or public consultation, and will require the effectiveness of the methods adopted to be monitored and evaluated, identifying lessons learned to enhance future approaches.
3. As directed by the Assistant Director of Communications and Head of NEPTS, represent them at meetings with other members of the senior management team, offering strategic communications and engagement advice; attend/represent the service at external engagement events; and provide formal briefings to key stakeholders, all in line with the EMAS Values, Big 3 strategic objectives, Communications Strategy and NEPTS Communications plans.
4. Offer expert guidance and advice to senior managers and colleagues for business continuity, crisis management, and emergency planning, training and incident response, including being actively involved in serious untoward incidents and independent inquiries where appropriate.
5. Support the Assistant Director of Communications and Head of NEPTS with the preparation of new NEPTS tender submissions and, if the bid is successful, the development of an effective mobilisation communications plan and related materials.
6. Build close working relationships with the Communications team to ensure effective cross-role cover as appropriate eg annual leave cover, and in support of large projects that impact all EMAS colleagues and volunteers, and/or stakeholders.
