Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.
We offer a wide-ranging curriculum to our Further Education students, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Management, Countryside and the Environment, Engineering, Equine, Floristry, Motorsport, Outdoor Adventure Sport, Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness, Uniformed Public Services and Veterinary Nursing.
We also have a thriving university centre at York offering a range of courses from Foundation degrees to Masters level.
We are looking to recruit a full-time Progression & Support Tutor, this new bespoke role will require you to work within the curriculum and with a cohort of around 40 students at our Wakefield campus to deliver our tutorial framework group sessions (Progression and Development sessions) on topics such as Employability, Prevent and British Values, mental health and wellbeing among many others. You will be responsible for supporting the students pastorally and monitoring their progress and attendance in one to one tutorial sessions.
In addition to this, the other half of your role will require you to be an active Learning Support Practitioner. You will provide pro-active in-class support to students with learning difficulties and maintain high quality records of that support in line with identified needs and support strategies. We would expect applicants to have an understanding and experience of some of the following Special Educational Needs - Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, social, emotional difficulties, speech, language and communication difficulties, dyspraxia and moderate to severe general learning difficulties.
Working closely with curriculum, Inclusive Learning, Student Services Team, Quality Team and Work Placement Teams, you will be responsible for ensuring each student has the life skills and knowledge they need to be employable, work ready and equipped with the skills to keep themselves safe when they leave our College.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Delivery of the Progression and Development tutorial programme which will include Employability and Life Skills in weekly group sessions. Sessions will include a range of delivery styles, including digital self-paced modules, discussion and debate.
- Conduct individual tutorial sessions with students to monitor progress on their course, set targets and regularly review.
- Provide pastoral support for low level issues, in collaboration with the Student Services and Wellbeing Team.
- Monitor and support student attendance and punctuality, in line with the College Attendance Strategy.
- Work with students on an individual basis to overcome any barriers to achievement, including workload management, meeting deadlines etc.
- To liaise closely with the Work Placement Team to ensure sufficient evidence is gathered from the students to support their qualification.
- Work closely with the wider Student Services Team to access any additional support for the students, including careers advice, wellbeing support, support for residential students etc
- Work closely with the Safeguarding Team and external agencies to ensure students are safe
- Work closely with curriculum course managers to ensure relevant information is shared and support actioned in lessons.
- To assimilate relevant information pertaining to their assigned students’ needs and support requirements, e.g. summary of EHCP content
- To work with, and assist, teaching staff in the planning and delivery of sessions
- To facilitate student integration into mainstream learning and enrichment activities
- To provide assistance and supervisory support and, where necessary, mediate social difficulties at break and meal times
- To accompany students on residential, day trip or work experience as required
- To be available to support other students in the classroom or College as required
- To read, scribe or record instances of students needing extra time to complete work to evidence normal way of working for exam access arrangements
- To support students in exams by providing the exam access arrangements they have in place
