The post holder will be a registered midwife who will act as a role model for promoting, supporting and protecting infant feeding services across Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

They will work to ensure that nationally recognised standards are met and support our journey to UNICEF BFI re-accreditation. They will advise and support all staff in relation to infant feeding and demonstrate a high level of competence in the speciality. They will be expected to broaden their remit as appropriate in line with current evidence base, knowledge and training.

They will make decisions based upon knowledge and experience in respect of the woman, her baby and family, and be accountable for those decisions. They will participate in facilitating that all staff in the service receive adequate training commensurate with their role to enable them to provide competent care in the area of infant feeding.

The post holder will promote and participate in the provision of the Midwifery/nurse led tongue tie service and will undertake training and continuing professional development as required by the post.

**JOB SUMMARY**:
To participate in the drive to maintain UNICEF UK BFI Standards across maternity services.

To participate in the implementation, review and development of strategies to ensure health professionals are adequately trained in breastfeeding management, supporting optimal parent-infant relationships, and ensuring that parents are enabled to make informed choices which are fully supported.

Maximise breastfeeding initiation and continuation rates in all infants born or residing within the Trust’s catchment areas.

Provide specialist knowledge underpinned by theory relating to complex breastfeeding problems to assist resolution, whilst recognising the needs of service users, in light of developments in practice both locally and nationally.

Provide an expert resource for staff caring for mothers and babies with complex feeding issues.

Contribute to service delivery and innovation, ensuring that the service is delivered in line with national, local and trust standards.

To promote and participate in the delivery of the midwifery/nurse led tongue tie service for the Trust, ensuring safe, timely and effective treatment for babies experiencing feeding difficulties.

To participate in the development of guidelines, information and practices that will both promote and support breastfeeding locally.

Act as a role model and support for the development of staff who work within the Infant Feeding or Tongue Tie Service.

Make decisions based upon knowledge and experience in respect of patient care, and be accountable for those decisions.

Act in accordance with the NMC Code at all times.

Ensure that the Trust’s values are at the heart of all decisions made and behaviours displayed.
