Head of Midwifery

We are looking for a 6 month fixed term contact (with a possible further 6 month extension) for a Head of Midwifery to support South Lakes Birth Centre in Barrow in Furness. You will work with the site triumvirate to ensure Maternity, Gynaecology and Neonatal services deliver a high quality safe service for our population.
This is an great exciting opportunity as we move into the next phase of our improvement journey and implementing our Vision and Strategy for our services.
As Head of Midwifery you will hold professional accountability and managerial responsibility for the delivery and management of the midwifery service on their site and the subsequent achievement of corporate and care group key performance indicators.
You will work in partnership with the service triumvirate to ensure that the Trust delivers timely, high quality and effective services.
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. Maternity services are provided in a consultant led unit
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. Maternity services are delivered in a stand alone midwifery lead unit
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

HoM is a key leadership role within the service ensuring good multidisciplinary team working.
Ensuring the service delivers high quality care and experience in line with national, regional and local standards.
The post-holder must maintain an up to date understanding of developments and changes in legislation, national policy and guidance that relate to all aspects of midwifery and ensure that senior Trust personnel are kept up to date and informed of the likely impact on Trust Services, translating national policy into local action.
Work with senior medical and non-medical professional staff to deliver a multi-professional clinical strategy that supports delivery of Trust values and objectives.
Support the development and implementation of standards of care supporting clinical teams in delivery and assurance of these standards in each clinical area
Work in partnership with the triumvirate leadership team to support professional standards of patient care and behaviours, monitoring adherence to clinical policies and procedures at all levels within the organisation including safeguarding, infection prevention and control.
- Work in collaboration with teams internally and externally to ensure shared learning from incidents and outcomes that are affected by variation in care and outcomes across pathways.
As a budget holder the post-holder must ensure the implementation of financial management arrangements, including allocation of budgets and effective management control in line with the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions. The post holder is a senior authorised signatory for the care group and is responsible for the procurement of equipment and supplies.
