The main aims of the Fellowship are to support the development of Multi Professional School of Public Health for London. This is a unique opportunity to work with very senior decision makers in London, both in HEE and OHID to work on the infrastructure, governance and relationships which will form the new School. The new School will support Speciality Training, Practitioner Scheme for London, work with NHS and other partners alongside a strategic contribution to workforce development for public health.
This placement has been devised with colleagues in HEE, and would suit a Registrar with an interest in public health workforce development.
Fellows will work up to a maximum of 80% on fellowships and must maintain a minimum of 20% clinical if applicable. Ideally the Fellow will have a PH background and as such may be able to work in their base organization for one day a week if necessary and acceptable to employer.
Applicants need to be in a trainee programme and can undertake this role as either LTFT category 2 or as an OOP.
To assist the HoS of Public Health and the wider Public health community to establish the Multi Professional School of Public Health working with key partners such as the London Public Health Collaborative, the London Workforce Group, and the London Public Health Board. In addition to HEE, OHID and NHSE/I plus other partners.
Project aims
To work with the Head of School and HEE leaders to establish the School of Public Heath with a wider, broader perspective of public health and incorporate the aims and strategies of partner organizations whilst maintaining the integrity of Public Health Specialty Training in London. This may develop further as the project to establish the School commences. The purpose of the work is to expand the School of Public Health to include the Practitioner Scheme, the work on public health skills and experience with other Specialties and include other groups such as ICS, Anchor organizations, PCNS and secondary care.
The New School will offer a range of programmes alongside Specialty Training. Methods The fellow will work with a London wide strategic group, the HOS and HEE to design the new School and the way in which this will work. This includes designing the form and functions, assisting with governance arrangements, reporting and strategic development. This is a high-profile role and will be based in a fast paced environment.
Key elements of the programme
Strategic development, Organizational development in a changing environment, managing political priorities and balancing competing agendas, establishing structures, managing communications, and maintaining the integrity of the specialty programme. This is an opportunity to work alongside key decision makers in public health whilst helping to lead the design of a new form of delivery for public health training and education.
The post holder will work with their Supervisor(s) to fulfil the aims of the post. They will be expected to work symbiotically with other relevant Fellows and the Head of School, the School Specialty Advisory Group and other relevant personnel and trainers within Health Education England. Any ongoing out-of-hours clinical work will continue to be supervised by their local consultants.
