**Job Summary**

The Volunteer Team Leader ensures that IWM delivers high quality, enjoyable and impactful volunteer engagement. Volunteer Team leaders will enjoy working day to day with a team of passionate and motivated volunteers overseeing smooth and safe operation across Front of House and Back of House areas. The team will produce positive, impactful results and experiences for volunteers, visitors and IWM.

Your role will focus on sustaining a thriving volunteer effort and supporting operations aboard HMS Belfast alongside building a positive volunteer ethos with staff (in partnership with critical stakeholders such as Visitor Experience, Participation, Membership, Preservation/Conservation, Digital and Curatorial).

You will support volunteers by organising day to day communications, briefings and deploying teams responsively to daily need. You will be responsible for the reviewing the volunteer rota, welfare and pastoral care of the volunteer teams..

You will be the key consistent liaison and connector to other operational staff and be required to build rapport in accordance with the Volunteering & Engagement Strategy and Implementation plan.

Volunteer Team Leaders should understand the organisational objectives for visitors and promote products and services (including events, guidebooks, membership, tours, volunteering, shops and cafes) to maximise IWM’s revenue and financial sustainability.

Key duties

**Primary Responsibilities**
- To lead and motivate the volunteers in order to get the best out of them
- To support Operational line managers with volunteer requirements and delivery of their roles
- To support volunteers day to day at your associated branch ensuring that they are inducted, trained and prepared for their role and that they comply with IWM standards and policy.

Including:

- Ensuring each volunteer is aware of their line management structure
- Ensuring that all basic disclosure security checks are completed
- Organising rotas, briefings and deploying volunteer teams responding to daily need
- Ensure volunteers are supported on their first day and throughout their volunteer cycle
- Ensuring smooth joined up volunteer operations at each respective branch
- Be a strong and visible champion of high quality volunteering activity
- Support the retention of a committed, valued volunteer team and operation
- To utilise the Better Impact system to manage volunteer rotas and, wherever possible, to ensure a volunteer presence that adds value to the visitor experience

- Cultivate a positive commitment to the volunteer ethos by recognising volunteer efforts and enabling volunteers to reach their full potential
- Day to day welfare and pastoral care of all volunteer teams at site

**Financial Responsibilities***
- Facilitate the reimbursement of routine travel support expenses

- Maintain an online database (Better Impact) of volunteers and activities

**Volunteer Leadership**
- You will be required to support, train and develop volunteers and ensure there is sufficient cover for all activities. You will role model the expected standard for visitor and volunteer engagement.
- You will provide practical support and advice to operational line managers on volunteer engagement.
- You will be a designated point of contact and support to your volunteers throughout their engagement with IWM.

**Volunteer & Visitor Experience**
- Work with and support operational line managers to ensure that volunteers feel equipped and empowered to deliver a proactive, engaging service to visitors and IWM.
- In absence of operational line manager (weekends, annual leave, sickness, offsite) act as first point of contact for volunteers and support with any issues and delivery of role.

**Income generation**
- You and your team will ensure that income objectives for the IWM are considered when advising on a visit and actively promote the shops, cafes, events, experiences and the value of the supporter journey (membership, volunteering etc) amongst other products and services
- You and your team should be trained and able to talk about membership, it’s benefits for the individual and for the IWM and to be able to actively recruit members

**Maintaining standards**
- You will act as an IWM ambassador at all times. You will ensure that both you and your volunteers are smart at all times and wearing appropriate badges adhering to the Volunteering policy, principles and IWM values and behaviours.
