Strategic Planning Lead

**What is the purpose of this role?**
This is an exciting opportunity to shape Thames Water’s 25-year strategic plan for water, to realise our 2050 vision, and deliver on outcomes for customers, communities, stakeholders and the environment.
This role will need to ensure that we deliver a series of integrated plans to an agreed timescale, with a regional focus in London and the Thames Valley & Home Counties. Each of the strategic plans must have a clear line of sight back to each theme with a clearly defined set of benefits.
The role will set the priorities for the team and allocate work across the team members, balancing workloads as appropriate. A key part function of this role will be leading problem-solving sessions and working with others to remove blockers.
Then, working with the planning community, produce an integrated plan against which we can monitor progress and benefits delivery.
- Lead the team of Strategic Planners, setting priorities and balancing workloads as appropriate.
- Build strong cross-company relationships and enable collaboration between the team and others in the business., driving innovation and efficiency.
- Enable the identification of multi-AMP performance improvements & benefits required to meet our strategies and strategic themes.
- Enable the creation of multi-AMP plans that meet our strategic goals.
- Work with the team to set out the level of investment required to meet these plans over multiple AMPs/
- Working with others to understand the key regional issues & risks that the company-wide plan will need to account for.
- Understand the requirements of our customers, stakeholders, and regulators.
- Professional membership in an engineering, environmental, or asset management organisation is an advantage.
- Ideally degree qualified or significant experience in similar roles.
**We’re looking for you to**:
- Numerate and proficient in the use of MS Office.
- A sound understanding of asset management or engineering best practice.
- Able to manage a small team, balancing often complex and competing needs
- Can direct others both within and outside of the Strategic Planning team to facilitate the production of plans.
- Great communicator who can share complex information in a simple manner.
- Can identify problems or opportunities for improvement and takes ownership of them, driving them through to resolution.
- Able to work flexibly across multiple workstreams, responding to changes in focus.
- Can build and leverage strong relationships across the company and external organisations.
- Has a good understanding of regulatory processes, such as price reviews or annual returns
- Has a good understanding of water systems and the impact that external factors can have on them
- Will be able to influence at all levels across the business, especially at a senior level, and to account for others’ views in our plans.
- Will help to create an open, inclusive learning environment where everyone’s views and input are welcomed.
- Support or stand in for the Head of Function as required.
