**About the Role**:
Debenham Group Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join the practice, to support the nursing team, on a part-time basis, for 20-25 hours per week. The postholder will work across our practices, at Debenham, Otley and Grundisburgh Surgeries.

The healthcare assistant (HCA) works under indirect supervision of the nurse manager and is accountable to the practice nurses, nurse lead and GPs for their actions in undertaking delegated work. The HCA role is guided by standard operating procedures and requires the individual to use a degree of initiative. The HCA also provides support for other members of the primary healthcare team and contributes towards the coordination of team activities.

The responsibilities of the role include:

- Undertaking, recording and following guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training;
- Participating in programmes for the management of long-term conditions, e.g. annual diabetic, coronary heart disease, asthma and COPD clinics, LD and SMI;
- Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory;
- Spirometry without reversibility;
- ECG;
- Preparing blood forms in accordance with practice guidelines for chronic disease management;
- Measuring and recording the following physiological measurements in routine presentations:

- blood pressure,
- pulse,
- temperature,
- height and weight - body mass index,
- smoking history,
- alcohol history;
- Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions;
- Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted;
- Makes recommendations to raise standards of practice and service delivery;

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Experience of working in customer care or experience of being a carer or working in a care environment
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Basic computer experience

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:

- Willing to work towards the Primary Health Care Assistant Certificate
