Community Engagement Worker

Bodmin, United Kingdom The Women's Centre Cornwall Full time

**GENERAL**

The Women’s Centre Cornwall has grown from its early roots as a Rape Crisis Centre into an innovative, award-winning feminist organisation which provides a wide range of services for women and girls in our communities. Our work with survivors of sexual and domestic violence is our core specialism as we believe that there can be no real gender equality without a complete cessation of violence against women. In addition, we provide community-based activities across Cornwall and support women ex-offenders across Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and HMP Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire.

**PURPOSE**

Following recent successful funding bids TWCC is seeking a dynamic, experienced, confident and enthusiastic part-time Community Engagement Worker to assist in the delivery of the established DIVAS community engagement project. Our DIVAS Community Engagement Project has been supporting the most marginalised and vulnerable groups of women in our communities since 2017 and has gained a reputation for its innovative, quality and effective work with women with learning disabilities and neurodivergent women.

The DIVAS project is led by the women using their intersectional lived experience of learning disability and or neurodivergence and their experience of domestic and sexual violence and abuse. At the centre of our project is co
- production. We prioritise empowering the DIVAS to ensure they have a clear voice in our organisational vision, values and service delivery, and equally importantly, also to influence other statutory and voluntary support services to develop informed inclusive policies and accessible service provision. The DIVAS work to influence and create change across Cornwall and nationally.

In achieving the above objectives, the DIVAS use a range of skills including peer education, training, consultancy and advocacy. At the heart of their success is the peer support that they offer each other supported and held within the ethos of the Women’s Centre.

**RESPONSIBILTIES**

Under the supervision and direction of the Community Engagement Manager you will contribute to:
**Empowering Women and Girls with Learning Disability & Neurodivergent Women**
- Outreach work to engage a wide range of organisations to support their awareness and increased referrals into the Women’s Centre support services and to access training.
- Assessment and triage of referred women into Specialist Support, Brief intervention or referral onto other more appropriate services.
- Support women and girls into the DIVAS peer support group and, if appropriate, to train as peer facilitators for the DIVAS training group and to equip them to become confident and competent educators.
- Support continued training provision to other service providers, both Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence providers and organisations specialising in supporting women with learning disabilities and neurodivergent women.
- Develop a community-based Healthy Relationships awareness programme specifically for women and girls with learning disabilities and neurodivergent women in our local areas.
- Support the development of modular training for Centre staff and volunteers to equip them to support women and girls with learning disabilities and neurodivergent women who are survivors of sexual violence and/or domestic abuse seeking specialist support.
- Continue OCN learning and develop the skills of women with learning disabilities and autism towards opportunities for employment and further training.
- Support the DIVAS to prepare and deliver consultancy to local and national agencies to improve inclusion and accessibility.
- Contribute to the development of expanding the DIVAS model into other areas.
