**Job summary**:
In DHSC, we are proud of our purpose - to enable everyone to live more independent, healthier lives for longer. To achieve this, and create a great place to work, we have four values: we are inclusive, we constantly improve, we challenge, and we are agile. If this sounds like an environment you’d like to work in, we’d love to hear from you.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Executive Officer (EO) information professional to deliver a professional library and information service in the Department of Health and Social Care.

Our Department is strongly committed to basing our policy process and decision making on the best possible evidence and the Knowledge Centre - our library and information service - has an important role to play in enabling this by providing a gateway to a wide range of high-quality information resources.

We strive to provide an outstanding, sustainable service that adds real value to the Department by empowering colleagues to make the best possible use of Knowledge Centre resources and services.

The Knowledge Centre sits within the Office of the Chief Analyst, which provides strategic leadership and coordination for the analytical community. We help ensure that the Department’s decision making is informed by the best available evidence and analysis. We deliver analytical insights and impact on high priority areas.

**Job description**:
This is a Government Knowledge and Information Management role and we will work with the successful applicant to shape the role in a way that supports your development needs and interests. The work is likely to include some or all of the following:

- Being forward thinking; working with the manager and the rest of the team to contribute to the strategic development of DHSC Knowledge & Library Services.
- Assist with service development and support the harnessing of new technologies to improve access to evidence and research for DHSC.
- Assist with the development and ongoing provision of an outreach service to DHSC staff, including the promotion of relevant information resources and highlighting ways in which staff can access resources themselves.
- To assist with the digital-first collection development and management processes as required, e.g. Library materials reviews, checking and auditing.
- Working with the Knowledge Centre team to ensure that the cataloguing and archiving of the department’s publications runs smoothly.
- To handle user registration procedures, liaising effectively, and as appropriate.
- Contribute to the work of the wider team and corporate activities within the Department. You will have a library-related post-graduate qualification or significant relevant experience.

**Person specification**:
We are looking for someone with a passion for information and library management. You will have the communication skills to build strong relationships with people at all levels and deliver a high-quality service within the Department. You will work closely with other teams within the Office of the Chief Analyst. You will be required to work flexibly on a wide variety of tasks, most of which involve communication with Knowledge Centre users and colleagues. You will be working within the Knowledge Centre, and will be available to users, ready to provide help and support. You will work within an established team of one Library Manager, one Senior Knowledge and Evidence Lead, one Knowledge and Evidence Lead and one Assistant Librarian.

Opportunities are also likely to arise to be involved in other projects across the Office of the Chief Analyst as we work flexibly to maximise our collective impact and to give team members the opportunity to expand their experience and skills.

DHSC is constantly evolving, as is our role in the Knowledge Centre in terms of outreach and training to enable new staff to access information resources. It is important that you are well organised, with good planning and delivery skills and with a professional approach that allows senior colleagues to trust your judgement.

It would be beneficial to have a library or information post-graduate qualification or significant relevant
