**Job description**:
The Corporate Strategy team sits at the heart of DfT as part of the wider Permanent Secretaries’ private office. You will play a vital role in a small and friendly team, working closely with contacts across the Department to support the Permanent Secretaries to deliver key corporate objectives.

The role would suit someone who enjoys working autonomously and is looking to develop an understanding of the work of the Department. In particular, the strategies and tools needed to support long term objectives. There will also be opportunities to gain insight in how the different types of Private Office functions (Director General, Permanent Secretaries and Ministerial) work.

You will be working closely with senior leaders in the department, developing new ways of working, and working with the Head of Corporate Strategy to shape new workstreams as they emerge.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Responsibility for selected areas of the Corporate Strategy portfolio to ensure the provision of a high-quality private office service that meets the Permanent Secretaries’ needs
- Assisting and supporting the Permanent Secretaries at meetings, external visits and events. You will work with the Head of Corporate Strategy, internal comms and external affairs to ensure an efficient use of Permanent Secretary time which is targeted towards to the highest priority areas, this will include producing a monthly visits and corporate strategy report for the Permanent Secretaries
- Building effective working-level relationships across the department to shape and land key messages at all seniority levels
- Liaising with officials, Internal Comms, parliamentary branch and corporate teams across DfT to ensure that the Permanent Secretaries have good quality information in advance of meetings, visits, speaking engagements and internal staff engagement
- Providing clear, accurate and timely advice and relaying the Permanent Secretaries’ steers to the department

**Person specification**:
**About you**:
We are looking for someone who has exceptional communication skills and can express themselves in a confident and concise manner with colleagues at all levels. You will represent the department, ensuring key messages are delivered to both internal and external stakeholders in a timely fashion. You will have good drafting skills with the ability to produce high quality documents.

Excellent organisational skills are required, and you will be able to manage and filter workflow as well as organise and prioritise your work to maximise productivity and achieve all deadlines. You will be highly adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements of the role.

**Additional Information**:
A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

There may be occasional travel to other DfT offices and opportunities to attend visits with the Permanent Secretaries.
