Please see job description and person specification attached. Job Purpose: Assist in the general running of specific analysers, equipment or tests. Perform basic maintenance checks as directed. Ensure senior staff, are made aware when stock levels are low.
To plan and prioritise own work under supervision and be fully aware of service requirements To ensure that your own work is carried out efficiently, accurately and in accordance with departmental procedures. To identify, prepare by uncapping and loading onto analysers samples for analysis. Unload, rerun if required, recap, rack away for storage in a refrigerator or cold room. Ensure that samples received match work lists, the patient ID is correct before testing and there is sufficient sample to perform the assay.
To bring to the attention of senior BMS all rejected samples due to inadequate patient ID or incorrect sample type for the test requested. To enter a range of test results into the Pathology computer system for authorisation by BMSs Prepare these samples for analysis including attaching bar code labels, centrifugation, separation and prepare aliquots as required.. To prepare samples and complete the necessary documentation for special tests dispatched to other reference laboratories, complying with all the relevant postal and packaging regulations. To assist in the safe disposal of used specimens and waste products and the daily cleaning of laboratory work surfaces.
Be aware of all functions and operate the MSOFT Blood Tracking system Issue of blood products, including Intra Venous Immunoglobulin, Human Albumin Solution, factor concentrates, Fresh Frozen Plasma following relevant SOPs. Collection of all unreserved units and transfused units and return to stock / record as transfused using Departmental computer system to ensure full audit trail. Monitor stock levels of blood products, distribute weekly stock levels to DCL Consultants and Blood Bank Section Leader. Monitor and test Trust and outlying blood refrigerator temperatures and maintain records.
Liaise with Biomedical Scientists and external contract engineers over emergency repair of faults and immediate removal of blood products to alternative storage. Collection and delivery of urgent blood and Pathology Samples. Carry out ad hoc collections or deliveries to / from other sites as directed by DCL Consultants and Management. Routine maintenance / checks of the two DCL lease vehicles.
To observe Departmental and Trust Fleet Management Policies. To observe all departmental, Trust, national and European Health & Safety regulations relevant to the service, ensuring attendance at the annual departmental H&S update. In addition all staff must sign the departmental H&S policy to acknowledge understanding and compliance. To continually update their knowledge and skills whilst documenting this in their Continual Professional Development folder.
To ensure contemporaneous completion of your induction and training records. To follow Standard Operating Procedures at all times and as directed by senior staff and contribute to their formulation. Propose any changes to these SOPs in order to maintain the quality of the service and maximise efficiency. To attend training courses as necessary.
To attend Statutory and Essential Update Training annually. To attend departmental briefings and/or acquaint yourself with the team brief posted on the departmental notice boards. To assist in the maintenance and compilation of workload statistics. To participate in an annual IPR and achieve any targets set at this time.
Participate in the 24/7 rotas for ATO and support staff. This includes regular nightshifts and weekend work. Following SOPs ensure that equipment checks are regularly carried out and recorded, e.g. recording refrigerator temperatures.
