Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has an ambitious Digital Programme underpinned by the need to make the very best use of available technology to support our organisation. We wish to appoint a Deputy to the DPO/Head of IG, which is a key role in supporting the development and management of the IG strategy and a wider modernisation of the new world of Data Protection and Cyber Security culture; in turn, leading to building patient and public trust in our management of people’s personal and sensitive healthcare data they have entrusted with us to keep safe.

We’re seeking people who are passionate about protecting people’s data and building the right culture.

You will be an experienced and effective operational manager, able to bring excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills to the role.

Main duties of the job

You will take on the usual managerial duties that come with this level of post and directly be responsible for the Information Governance, Data Protection Administration and Digital Health Records Library teams, and the Compliance, Audit and Risk function to ensure the Trust has a well-managed and coordinated approach to the implementation of Information Governance and Records Management initiatives. Responsible for ensuring the Trust is compliant with legal and NHS Information Governance requirements and best practice. You will have an expert knowledge and understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018) and encompassing UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Alongside NHS governance frameworks, such as the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DS&PT) and including records management.

Working for our organisation

The various functions are situated within Digital Services, which are based across multiple sites. Digital Services has a portfolio of projects supporting digital transformation across NUH and into the wider Health community, and our Deputy DPO/Deputy Head of Information Governance will play a key role in our contribution to the Digital Collaborative working with colleagues across our Integrated Care System (ICS).

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the UK’s largest acute teaching hospitals employing over 17,000 staff and delivering an exceptional range of patient care, teaching, research, and regional tertiary services. The Trust operates across multiple sites and delivers a range of care within the local and regional community. This post is full-time equivalent and requires a hybrid approach to home and on site working.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

**High level tasks**

To support the DPO in demonstrating how the Trust meets the data protection accountability principle

To monitor compliance with our data protection obligations via performance reports and internal audits

To ensure that the Trust contributes its IG expertise to community-wide shared records

To ensure the Trust provides appropriate evidence to meet the requirements of the annual DS&PT

To ensure that resources are used effectively and with regard to changing priorities.

An understanding or experience of Information Security (Cyber Security) would be advantageous to support the wider Trusts ability to develop and implement Cyber Security Frameworks and build a defence in depth against potential threats and vulnerabilities. This is not essential and opportunities to develop in this field may be available if this is something the post holder is interested in.
