Deputy Service Manager - Band 5


A full-time opportunity has arisen in the Surgery Directorate for a full time Deputy Service Manager to join our busy HPB & General Surgery department.


We are looking for a confident, well-motivated, pro-active individual to support the delivery of some key projects, both strategically and operationally.


The successful candidate will monitor and ensure delivery of key performance targets and provide support to the Service Manager and Head of Service. The post holder will also have line management responsibility for the administration team.
Working closely with the Management team , you will have excellent communication skills with proven experience of being able to manage multiple demands from different areas. You will have experience in both leading and delivering elements of projects. You will possess the ability to work under pressure, with excellent planning, time management and organisational skills.


The successful candidate will have the ability to anticipate and manage capacity and performance issues in a timely manner. It is desirable for applicants to be competent in the use of Careflow and other hospital systems.

Training and Qualifications
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
Experience at management level which could include project management, change management, multidisciplinary working, human resource management, performance management
Ability to present data and write reports
Evidence of a proactive approach to relationship building through face-to-face engagement
Proven record of planning, organisation and administration skills.

Skilled in analysing business performance information, interpreting performance data and then proposing solutions / outcomes to enable the department to reach business targets. A comparison of a range of options e.g. designing working procedures and working processes around new technology and national directives to enable the department to meet performance targets in the most cost effective way.
