HM Treasury in Darlington will be joined by the Department for International Trade, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Office for National Statistics, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Department for Education, Department for Digital, Culture Media and Sport and the Competition and Markets Authority.

**Job description**:
**About the Group**

The Strategy, Planning and Budget Group operates at the heart of the Treasury to develop the Department’s overall strategy, work programme and business plan, helping to deliver that strategy with a large, flexible project team who work on ministerial priorities across the whole range of the department’s policy responsibilities. We also co-ordinate the Chancellor’s annual Budget, the Finance Bill and the Treasury’s tax strategy, alongside which we coordinate the Treasury’s input to the COVID-19 pandemic inquiry. And we play a leading role in the development of the Darlington Economic Campus, ensuring that this pioneering new cross-government hub brings people together effectively to play an active role in the most important issues of the day.

**About the Team**

The Strategy, Planning and Projects Team (SPP) is a hard-working and energetic team, comprising around 50 roles focused on two major areas:

- ‘Strategic Projects’, a flexible resource of around 50 staff that provides rapid support to the highest priority areas of Treasury work. Recent projects we've supported include: Ukraine/Russia sanctions and refugee resettlement; the cost of living; and, COVID policy.
- ‘Strategy, Planning & Change’ (SPC), which supports the Treasury’s Executive Management Board (EMB) on departmental strategy, performance, and risk. We developed and are responsible for the department’s ‘One Treasury’ vision and strategy, lead Treasury’s ‘Diversity of Thought’ initiative, and play a leading role in shaping how the department prioritises its resources optimally to address key issues.

This role is within the ‘Strategic Projects’ branch. Members of this team work on short projects (typically c3-4 months) covering all areas of the Treasury’s work. You might be responsible for preparing advice to ministers on issues that require additional staff for an effective response, helping to shape how the department responds to a complex issue, or providing project management skills to aid delivery.

**Responsibilities**:
This is an exciting and varied role suitable for somebody who is able to pick up new content quickly and use their skills to deliver priority outcomes for the department.
