Safeguarding Specialist Advisor

The post holder will be delivering training and responding to enquiries from the whole KMPT work force employed or volunteering, and providing professional advice. The role will involve more than responding to safeguarding events; it will focus on prevention and developing a full range of strategies to keep people and families accessing KMPT safe and to inspire wider confidence in service quality.
The post-holder will contribute their specialist areas of knowledge and experience along with contributing across the full spectrum of safeguarding services including the following broad agendas, with support from safeguarding colleagues:
- Safeguarding Children and Early Help
- MCA and DoLS (soon to be Liberty Protection Safeguards LPS)
- Adult Safeguarding
- Think family
The post-holders will work across the full spectrum of safeguarding activity, and will follow the systems and processes in place to effectively and expediently manage referrals and individual cases. Training is a significant element of the role, the skill of being able to support and educating others is a must. They may be required to: respond to and manage a range of safeguarding referrals; conduct preliminary investigations and complete fact finding missions ; follow up on referral pathways, and provide advice and support to a full range of practitioners, delivery training via remote and face to face forums, provide MARAC research and delivery safeguarding supervision.
The post-holders will provide support to all levels of staff to enable them to recognize the full range of indicators of abuse and enhance their own skills;
The role requires a flexible approach to support cover, when needed willingness to travel and be visible. The role is predominantly home working, therefore a space to work confidentially is needed.

The post-holders will work across the full spectrum of safeguarding activity, and will follow the systems and processes in place to effectively and expediently manage referrals and individual cases. They may be required to: respond to and manage a range of safeguarding referrals; conduct preliminary investigations and complete fact finding missions for example Safeguarding Rapid Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Homicide Review etc; advise on safeguarding actions when parents with vulnerabilities are discharged and complex cases that need safeguarding support; attend child and adult practice reviews plus learning events; follow up on referral pathways, and provide advice and support to a full range of practitioners.
Post-holders will also support wards and services, and will be building key relationships with all levels of clinical teams. Post-holders will be involved in learning events, establishing service needs relating to the safeguarding offer and encouraging the view that safeguarding is everyone’s business.
The post-holders will provide support to all levels of staff to enable them to recognize the full range of indicators of abuse and enhance their own skills; Post-holders will also provide safeguarding supervision to front facing staff, and will be involved in de-briefing and other learning opportunities. The role will involve providing a significant amount of informal and pre-arranged training sessions to meet key learning outcomes, to include both mandatory and more specialist training which will include case studies. The role will also involve giving and receiving a full range of feedback on training delivery and impacts, and supporting the use of such feedback to maintain ongoing development of a full range of media based as well as face-to-face training packages.
