Role Description

Befriender 'Out and About' Volunteer for Person We Support

Location: Maidstone 

Time Commitment:  3-4 hours per week

As a Befriender Volunteer, you’ll play an important role in the lives of those in need of companionship. We are looking for someone to support a person with sight loss to help them to get out and about. This may be anything from going for a walk, going for lunch or helping to take them to organised activities such as horse riding or shopping. You'll find this role is very rewarding and fun

There will be a introductory period for you to get to know the person we support and for them to get to know you, helping to build trust. The team at our service in Maidstone are extremely experienced and will provide support during the introductory period.

Skills required To have a good sense of humour, love to chat and be a good listener To be punctual and reliable To be kind, empathetic and patient To be able to deal with information in line with our data protection and confidentiality procedures To be able to assist when necessary with sighted guide/orientation Please note that you will need to be  over the age of 18  in order to apply for this role. To ensure the safety of the people we support, we require a DBS check and two satisfactory references before a volunteer role is confirmed. As you will be volunteering directly with vulnerable individuals, you will also be required to undertake safeguarding training, as well as any training which is specific to the role.
