Senior Lecturer/lecturer

**Job Purpose**
The post holder will lead and undertake world-class research consistent with the research strategy of the School and College. The post holder will build an internationally competitive and externally grant-funded research program, publishing high-impact research papers, presenting at international meetings/symposia, and participating in review and advisory groups and panels. In addition, the post holder will supervise and teach students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervise post-doctoral researchers, contribute to curriculum development, and undertake appropriate administration as requested by the Director of the School.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
**Research**
- To provide outstanding academic leadership by providing a coherent vision for research and postgraduate training and by inspiring the highest standards of research.
- To contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile and international standing of the School of Infection and Immunity through developing and sustaining an extensive track record of publications in high impact journals, contributing to international meetings and taking part in review and granting panels at national/international level, as appropriate. There is an expectation that, as PI, the post holder will develop an external grant funded portfolio.
- To develop and lead an internationally recognised research programme aligned with the Schools’ Research Aims by developing appropriate resources, recruiting and maintaining a highly productive research group, and securing external funding through grants and fellowships.
- To be involved in the integration of bacteriology research with other appropriate specialisms and cross cutting research beacons at the University of Glasgow.
- To proactively collaborate with other colleagues across the University to create new research groups and approaches.
- To deliver invited and reviewed talks at national and international conferences and workshops.
- To foster good relations with relevant sponsors, including reporting research findings.
- To supervise and mentor research students through to timely completion of their degrees.
- To engage in external academic activities in accordance with Institute research strategy which enhance the College’s international profile.
- To undertake external PhD examining.
- To undertake appropriate administrative responsibility as required by the Director of the School, including but not limited to, selection, assessment, mentoring and development of post-doctoral and pre-doctoral research scientists.
- To contribute to the academic community through the editorship/review process of internationally respected journals and/or serving on professional bodies/research board(s).
**Teaching**
- To fully participate in teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates, as required by the Director of Teaching.
- To contribute to Graduate School activities with the aim of broadening the skills and experience of postgraduate students.
- Where required, to contribute to development of new degree programmes.
- To design and lecture on modules in undergraduate/postgraduate courses, to a high standard, in line with research and departmental goals. - To assess student work (coursework, exams) in timely and effective way, providing constructive feedback where required.
- To propose and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate team and individual projects.
- To perform external examining, as appropriate.
**Administration**
- To actively contribute to the development of School strategy, priorities, direction and success.
- To represent School activities outwith the University.
- To contribute to School/College working groups, as appropriate.
- To contribute to the efficient administration and servicing of the department as required by the Head of School.
**For appointment at Grade 9**
- To participate in the management of School/College operations.
- To participate in School/College performance reviews.
