**Job Purpose**
The School of Law seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Legal Theory and the Philosophy of Law.
For appointment at Grade 9 (Senior Lecturer): To make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College through leading and contributing to research of international standard, high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, securing research funding, and providing academic leadership and management within the School/College. To actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Develop and progress individual/joint research projects of international standard in the area of Legal Theory and the Philosophy of Law with the support of a mentor, as required.
3. Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College, including establishing a track record of high-quality publications.
5. Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
6. Participate fully in examination and other assessment processes, as appropriate, using a variety of methods and techniques and to provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
8. Supervise individual student projects at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, and to contribute to the supervision and training of postgraduate research students, as appropriate, to ensure their effective development
10. Engage in professional development as appropriate.
12. Make a substantial contribution to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College. Establishing and leading research collaborations with appropriate individuals and groups within the University, including multi-disciplinary links, and developing external research collaborations both nationally and internationally, to ensure that research activities are at the forefront of the field.
13. Take a lead in the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner which supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment, making a substantial contribution to the teaching and learning activities within the School.
14. Develop new and effective approaches to the use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, organisation, feedback and assessment.
15. Develop a growing portfolio of research outputs and activities, and support early career staff in developing their own portfolio
16. Demonstrate a distinctive contribution to the academic community through a leading role nationally and internationally.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent with an extensive and established reputation in research and significant teaching experience within Legal Theory and the Philosophy of Law.
A2 Recognised expertise in Legal Theory and the Philosophy of Law to support the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
A3 A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management at School/Service/College level.
A4 Sustained engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
A5 Engagement with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies, aims and ambitions.

**Desirable**:

B1 Experience of external engagement might lead to impact outside academia.

C1 Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.
C2 Ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of major research and teaching activities.
