An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our established orthopaedic, burns, plastics, and limb reconstruction therapy team at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be a key member of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams, who provide care to children in both an in and outpatient setting. The BOPP’s team are a large experienced, friendly, supportive, compassionate, and forward-thinking team, and you will gain a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience through working with them and with a diverse patient group.
You will be responsible for carrying out direct patient contact under the supervision of a qualified professional, maintaining and ordering a range of equipment, maintaining patient databases, and working in a range of inpatient, outpatient, and clinic settings in a rapidly changing environment. You will be flexible, organised and have great interpersonal skills.
- To provide specific skilled support to qualified physiotherapists and occupational therapists by assisting in the assessment and treatment of children and young people referred to the service.
- To work under the indirect supervision of a qualified therapist.
- To independently carry out planned activities of daily living and rehabilitation to individual children.
- To provide support in the sourcing and provision of equipment and assistive aids
- To undertake appropriate administrative, clerical and housekeeping duties.

CLINICAL
- To provide assistance to all aspects of the inpatient and outpatient services within the clinical specialities of Orthopaedics, Burns and Plastics, PLRS and Spinal surgery either independently or in conjunction with a qualified therapist.
- To assist qualified therapists in the physical assessment and treatment of children and young people.
- To manage a personal caseload of children as delegated by the qualified therapist.
- Following instructions from a qualified member of staff to independently execute a treatment programme with a child using a variety of activities to support the child's independence and rehabilitation e.g. bath and toilet transfers, dressing and use of assistive equipment.
- To be responsible for decision making during treatment following agreed protocols or guidelines from qualified staff.
- To recognise when a child needs re-assessing and / or treatment programmes need changing and communicate with qualified staff accordingly.
- To possess a basic understanding of illness and disability, safety issues, treatment techniques and the ability to recognise the effectiveness of therapy intervention and the skill to refer back to a qualified therapist.
- To acknowledge any limitations in competence when accepting assigned duties from qualified staff.
- To attend and assist qualified professionals in assessing and managing specialist seating / wheelchair provision and other specialist equipment.
- To assist qualified therapists in the sourcing, assessment and ordering of disability equipment.
- To maintain high standards of housekeeping, orderliness, cleanliness and infection control measures for therapy equipment; including toys and assessment equipment.
- To be responsible for maintaining equipment, including basic safety checks in order to ensure safe and appropriate refurbishment of equipment.
- To possess a good understanding of safety and legal issues as applied to the provision of equipment for the management of disability or dysfunction.
- To be responsible for receiving and passing on information within the multi-disciplinary team. This includes the handling of confidential and sensitive information.
