The core function of the PGME Department is to ensure medical education and training across the Trust meets national, local and professional quality standards. Delivering Postgraduate Medical Education is embedded in the Trust’s strategic goals. It is recognised that high quality medical education has a significant downstream effect and not only raises the quality of service provision but also the quality of doctors’ attracted to work at the Trust and the quality of patient experience. PGME therefore safeguards the reputation of the Trust and supports its ambition to be the safest organisation in the UK.

NCA has a strong track record for educating doctors in training. Every year the trust educates all levels of doctors in Foundation, GP, IMT Specialty and academic, leadership and research programmes, as well as ensuring the supervision and development of Clinical Fellows and Physician Associates. The Trust aims to deliver high quality training to doctors at all levels.

Led by the Directors of Medical Education and the Head of Service, the Postgraduate Medical Education team work actively with all junior doctors and Physician associates to understand their education needs and to ensure they receive the appropriate level of support and training. Moreover those delivering education across the Trust are also supported and developed by the team.

The BRO Postgraduate Medical Education Team supports learners and clinical leads across Bury, Rochdale and Oldham Care Organisations but operates as an NCA wide PGME service working closely and in tandem with the SCO PGME service.

**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Postgraduate Medical Education Department across the Bury, Rochdale and Oldham Care Organisations (BRO) providing leadership across the service. The post holder will be responsible for line management within the PGME administrative team. As the Deputy Head of Service, specialist knowledge and support to the wider PGME Clinical Education Leadership Team will be an integral part of the role.

The post holder will ensure that all administrative & management functions and processes are delivered to a high quality and will participate in service improvement and support major change initiatives to modernise systems, environments, and service delivery across the NCA.

The workload will vary and include managerial, financial, budgetary, performance and project management duties as well as providing specialist advise to both internal and external stakeholders. The post holder will be responsible for managing an NCA wide workstream to support the wider PGME programme.

There is a quality assurance element to the role and the post holder will support the Head of Service to critically analyse outcome data in relation to national quality standards for medical education and training making recommendations
