We would welcome you into our friendly, expanding and award winning service. We are a specialist service that strives to deliver excellent standards of care to expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health problems. The team is multi-disciplinary and works directly with women and their families providing assessment, interventions and support for pregnant women and women within the postnatal period with a range of mental health needs.

We have provisions to work from several bases in the geographical area of Shropshire in addition to some home working

We are looking for a Peer Supporter who has personal lived experience of recovery and mental health challenges to join our friendly and supportive Multi-Disciplinary Team. Peer support is based on the recognition that there is no better person to support the path towards recovery than someone who has walked the same path as that individual. The role of Peer Support Worker (PSW) has been developed specifically for those who have lived experience of mental health challenges. Through sharing your wisdom from your own experiences you will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. As an integral and highly valued member of the Perinatal Mental Health Team you provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to families in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process.

Main duties and responsibilities
- To work directly with an identified caseload of individuals and their carers through a range of methods including, video/telephone call, text and in person face to face sessions.
- To work with identified individuals and members of the wider MDT to ensure care plans are truly co-produced.
- To draw on own lived experience to offer understanding, support and hope to individuals accessing the service and promote independence and recovery.
- Contribute to the overall care of an individual, helping to identify any early warning signs of deteriorating wellbeing by monitoring an individual’s mental health, level of functioning and mental state, escalating any areas of concerns to the relevant senior staff member.
- Drawing on personal experience to help individuals to identify their strengths and triggers and supporting them to establish the things that are important to them in their life, identifying goals and the steps they wish to take to achieve them.
- Supporting individuals to identify and overcome any barriers which may impact their recovery.
- Champion a recovery orientated service including promoting involvement, engagement, participation and co-production opportunities.
- To co-design and co-deliver recovery orientated, therapeutic groups and activities as equal partners in the development and delivery of activities.
- Challenge any stigma which may exist within the service, local communities and partner organisations.
- Promote awareness and understanding of peer roles.
- Actively promote and support individuals to be involved in the ongoing review and evaluation of services and encourage them to participate in co-designing and co-delivering services as part of their longer term recovery.
