The post is funded by the EPSRC to combine the High-Speed Scanning Ion Conductance Microscope (HS-SICM) developed in the lab and epi-illumination Selective Plane Illumination light sheet microscope (eSPIM) that is developed in the laboratory of Professor David Klenerman, University of Cambridge. The Research Associate will be expected to combine and maintain SICM-eSPIM setup, prepare samples of cultured biological cells, and perform correlative life SICM and eSPIM fluorescence microscopy imaging, analyse data, write and submit publications to refereed journals.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
The post holder will be made familiar with the principles of and receive comprehensive training in SICM and eSPIM. Training with cell culture, transfection and sample preparation could also be provided.
- To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
- To maintain accurate and complete records of all experimental procedures and findings
- To present findings to colleagues and at conferences
- To submit publications to refereed journals.
- To provide guidance to staff and PhD and MRes students.
- Contribute to bids for research grants.
- To conduct and plan own scientific work with appropriate supervision.
- To actively participate in the research programme of the Group
- To publish in high quality journals and to present data at national and international meetings.
- To participate in Group research meetings and internal seminars
- To collaborate with other allied scientists within Imperial College and elsewhere in London and abroad, as appropriate.
- To contribute to the smooth running of the Group’s laboratories and, facilities with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students within the laboratories
- Assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students and research assistants as required.
- To comply with the College, Division, and Unit safety practices and to attend courses on safety when appropriate.
- To develop contacts and research collaborations within the College and the wider community.
- To promote the reputation of the Group, the Department and the College.

**Essential requirements**:

- Hold a PhD in in engineering or biophysics or a closely related discipline, or
equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.- Experience of conducting scientific research.
- Experience in laser optics, scanning probe microscopy, LabView, Micro-Manager and general programming skills are highly desirable.
- Applicants should be motivated, well organised and able to work effectively as part of a team.

**Further information**:
This is a full time (35h/pw) and a fixed term (17 months) position based at the Hammersmith Hospital campus.
