**Job summary**:
We're in the process of significantly enhancing our energy system modelling capabilities within the Office of Research and Economics. This exciting development within Ofgem's Analysis profession involves integrating a sophisticated energy system model into our operations and recruiting experts in energy system modelling. In this pivotal role, you'll lead the charge in establishing this new capability, engaging in both energy system modelling and economic analysis. Tailored training will be provided based on the specifics of the model procured, ensuring you're fully equipped to make a meaningful impact.

The role involves supporting team goals, setting and reaching objectives, and enhancing team collaboration to manage resources and risks. You'll also play a key role in advancing diversity and inclusion, and contributing to colleagues' welfare with the Personal Development Lead (PDL)

You will lead efforts to build Ofgem’s energy system modelling capability, from procurement to integration, and undertake rigorous modelling to inform key decisions and support the energy transition. Your work will involve providing analytical advice across the organisation, ensuring high standards of analysis, and collaborating with other experts to align work programmes with analytical best practices.

Professional development is key to this role, encouraging resource management, team support, and ongoing learning. This involves coaching, identifying growth opportunities, supporting qualifications, and performance management. You'll also build important relationships across and beyond Ofgem, including with internal teams, portfolio managers, and external stakeholders in the energy sector and regulatory bodies.

The role requires a background in conducting and spearheading sophisticated energy system modelling, paired with deep-seated expertise and comprehensive understanding of the GB gas and electricity markets. The ideal applicant will hold a Degree or Masters in an analytical or quantitative discipline, or possess equivalent professional experience that underscores their capability in this field.

You should demonstrate an ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, and possess an exceptional grasp of project management principles, showcasing an aptitude for proactively organising, prioritising, and managing a diverse array of tasks and projects with finesse.

**Job description**:
Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply. We are playing a vital part in accelerating the transition to Net Zero and a carbon neutral energy system - a goal that everyone wants to achieve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing your part in creating new energy solutions that are great for customers, and great for the environment.

Ofgem has a culture of inclusion that encourages, supports and celebrates the diverse voices and experiences of our colleagues. It fuels our innovation and helps ensure we can best represent the consumers and the communities we serve. Everyone is welcome - as an inclusive workplace, our employees are comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work.

The Office of Research and Economics at Ofgem is looking to expand our energy system modelling capability. Over the coming months this will involve procuring an existing energy system model[1] and bringing it in-house, alongside recruiting energy system modelling professionals. If successful, you will be involved in building this modelling capability within Ofgem, undertaking energy system modelling, as well as more generic economic analysis, as required. For this role, energy system modelling specific experience is necessary: depending on the energy system model procured, there will be an opportunity for model-specific training. You will be joining Ofgem’s strong economics community working collaboratively with others to lead as well as contribute to high profile projects using your modelling expertise.

Within these roles you will be part of the Analysis profession within Ofgem to support in your career aspirations. After the initial deployment, you will have the opportunity to work flexibly across Ofgem as a member of your Profession, working on cross-Ofgem projects, and/or
