Ipswich, United Kingdom East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust Full time

At Ipswich Hospital we are seeking a Senior Theatre Practitioner for our East Theatres team on a permanent or fixed term basis.

East Theatres offers surgery for adult and paediatric patients undergoing orthopaedic elective and trauma procedures. We comprise of 4 operating theatres, 2 for joint replacements and 2 for spinal surgery.

If you are keen to develop your skills as a skilled practitioner, work in a progressive and innovative department and would like to help us drive change, we want to hear from you

You will need to be a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.

Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.

In 2024 elective orthopaedic surgical services will transfer to our brand new state-of-the-art specialist centre for elective orthopaedics at Colchester Hospital.

As a senior theatre practitioner, you will be key member of the multi-disciplinary team. You will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high standards of perioperative clinical practice and individualised patient care by demonstrating an advanced standard of clinical skills underpinned by theory. You will manage both elective Orthopaedics and Trauma and act up in the absence of the Clinical Lead, therefore you will have strong leadership skills and act as a role model.

In this role, you will assist the clinical lead in improving service provision within the suite, through auditing, benchmarking and risk management. You will also promote the development of the perioperative role, identifying, implementing and evaluating new ways of working and delivery of patient care and clinically effective guidelines.

This post also involves teaching, coaching and mentoring students, junior and support staff and therefore you will hold a relevant mentorship qualification.

We are ESNEFT and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex. Our dedicated staff deliver care from acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, community hospitals, surgeries, community clinics and in patients’ own homes. We are one of the largest NHS organisations in England, employing more than 12,000 staff. We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.

Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata) and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offer a variety of services. Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

For full details of the responsibilities and duties of this role please see the attached job description.
