**Strategy Advisor (Inside IR35)**

**Contract Term: 5 Months**

**Location: London, Hybrid**

**In the Defra group, we deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s lives. We are responsible for England’s environment, our countryside and rural economy, the food and farming sectors and have lead responsibility for protection from a wide range of natural threats and hazards. We have developed a set of three strategic objectives covering our policy outcomes and corporate objectives. These objectives help us to deliver our ambitious vision to build our green and healthy future and provide a framework for all the important work we carry out.**

Our objectives are:

- To pass on to the next generation a natural environment protected and enhanced for the future.
- To lead the world in food, farming, and fisheries with a sustainable model of food production.
- To be an outstanding organisation focused on making a difference, with world class delivery capability.

**As a Strategy Advisor your main responsibilities would be**:

- Managing the Northern Ireland Directorate’s relationships with Northern Ireland teams x-Whitehall, trade colleagues, embassies, and Irish counterparts
- Building understanding of British/Irish/Northern Ireland institutions in Defra
- Development of a Northern Ireland/Ireland capability offer
- Organising visits and engagement for senior officials and Ministers
- Advising colleagues on Northern Ireland/Ireland implications for Defra policy
- Structuring and coordinating engagement with the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs throughout implementation of the Windsor Framework
- Horizon scanning and scenario planning for political developments in Northern Ireland and Ireland through close working with the Northern Ireland Office.

**You’ll have relevant experience in**:

- Experience working on projects/programmes in a complex and/or ambiguous environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience of producing briefing/materials for Senior Civil Servants and/or Ministers; or Board/C-suite level.
- Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary groups to deliver shared outcomes
- Interest in current affairs/politics.
- Recent knowledge and understanding of the European Union, devolution in the UK, experience working with the Devolved Administrations, EU Member States or the European Commission
- Understanding of Northern Ireland institutions and politics
- Public Sector Experience
