**Job summary**:
In the victim liaison officer role, you work with victims of crime and/or their supporters, building strong relationships within the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and externally to continuously improve our service. In doing this, you provide a service that is empathic and helps build trust and confidence in the work we do - helping ensure we are improving the experience of victims going through the criminal justice system.

As a victim liaison officer, you give important information to victims during a challenging time - so communicating clearly, politely, and professionally is essential. In your role you are emotionally aware, understanding, patient and calm - helping victims to understand what is happening in this stage of the criminal justice process, and directing them to appropriate support services.

You must be aged 18 or over due to the nature of this work.

**Job description**:
As a victim liaison officer you respond to victim’s queries in person, over the phone and in writing. You have strong communication skills and pay attention to detail, providing victims with updates, accurate information, and signposting them to support services.

You will work in either our universal services team or one of our specialist rape and serious sexual offences unit. Flexibility may be required to assist with caseloads in other teams.

**Victim liaison officer responsibilities**:

- To provide a service to victims - communicating clearly, responding to correspondence appropriately, and ensuring all work is carried out to a high standard.
- To manage sensitive and challenging conversations with colleagues, criminal justice partners and victims in a calm, empathetic and professional way.
- To answer queries in a timely manner with accurate and up to date information. Ensuring victims are signposted to appropriate contacts when you are unable to provide further assistance.
- To help victims understand our role in the criminal justice process and next steps, using your knowledge and experience to build trust and confidence in the work we do.

**Person specification**:
You must have essential experience in the following areas:

- Ability to draft and prepare high-quality, empathetic written communications, written in plain English.
- Ability to manage sensitive and challenging conversations - demonstrating empathy, calmness and professionalism.

Experience in communicating with internal and external contacts and providing high-quality customer service is desirable.

This role is open to people who are aged 18 or over. Under the Health and Safety at Work Regulations Act 1999, the nature of work involved in this role poses a psychological risk to individuals under the age of 18.
