The Gastroenterology and Hepatology service are looking for a full-time Patient Pathway Administrator to join their team on a full time, permanent basis.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and conscientious team player, who can work well under pressure and has the ability to prioritise their own workload.

You will support the Gastroenterology and Hepatology department by delivering high quality administration duties to support the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

As a PPA within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service you will be responsible for managing the patient pathway and typing clinical and non-clinical letters, ensuring they are reviewed in a timely manner, along with monitoring results.

The post holder will be working as part of a larger administrative team, and liaising with colleagues and patients alike as well as supporting the Gastroenterology Clinicians, Nurses and Non-Clinical Staff.

You will work closely with the Specialty PA to help ensure local and national targets are met.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ensuring letters are typed accurately and efficiently

Working closely with PA's and consultants to ensure letters are authorised in a timely manner

Providing a thorough administrative in/outpatient service to patients

Use judgement and initiative to prioritise the importance/urgency of particular requests within defined guidelines

Ability to exchange sensitive or contentious information with diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

Liaising with PA's regarding appointments and necessary important clinical information to ensure patients are seen on their pathway without delay.

To undertake other specialty specific duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures to facilitate the patient pathway

Ensure RTT patient data quality is accurate at all times

Adapt a flexible attitude to meet the needs of the service, taking into consideration each department’s unique specialty and the subsequent requirements of such specialist services.

Promote an open friendly working environment

Adhere to Trust policies and procedures relevant to your position.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
- 5 GCSE’s or equivalent C or above - must include English

Desirable criteria

Experience & Communication

Essential criteria
- Experience in using Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Experience in completing letters, forms, reports and tables using computerised technology
- Previous experience within a similar admin role
- Must be able to clearly and accurately convey information verbally gathered from both verbal and documented reports
- Maintains confidentiality, sensitivity and empathy in communication with patients/colleagues

Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS Experience
- Knowledge of 18 week and Cancer targets / Medical Terminology

- Able to use judgement to make decisions in order to solve problems / enquiries
- Able to complete tasks using own initiative
