Job overview

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent position as a Band 6 Clinical Educator within the Neurosciences Department.

You will be working alongside an already established Clinical educator and be part of the wider team of D10, D11 & NSPU ensuring that education, teaching and an adequate learning environment is available to support and nurture staff.

This will include planned and bedside teaching as well as assisting to deliver mandatory training and supporting both newly and existing staff members.

Ward D10 / D11 are 28 bedded wards that care for patients with many complex neurosurgical and neurological needs. NSPU is a 10 bedded unit providing care for post operative neurosurgical patient.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ensure that delivery of person centered care and compassionate care is at the center of the specialty.
Spend 80% of their time in clinical practice in a supervisory capacity supporting new starters, Trainee Nursing Associates (TrNA) international nurses working alongside nursing staff providing clinical care to develop their knowledge and skills.
Deliver a specialty specific programme of training and education ensuring nursing teams have the skills and competencies to function safely, effectively and efficiently. This will include supporting the PDN for the specialty in the planning and implementation any new or extended clinical skills or roles.
Contribute to the development; implementation and evaluation of the Education and Training Needs Analysis for the specialty ensuring returns from appraisals are fed through to ensure continuous professional development for the area.
Be responsible for supporting ward/ dept. sisters charge nurses to ensuring staff complete their mandatory training, induction, HCA academy and Acute Care Skills in a timely manner.
Contribute to the delivery and facilitation of individual sessions on the divisional education and training programmes.
Support the division in sharing of best practice and learning from patient complaints and incidents, maintaining a continuous cycle of improvement.
Work collaboratively with other clinical educators across the division to ensure education and training opportunities are shared across the division and inter-professionally.
